There was once a time when Young Buck mentioned Lil Wayne it only had to deal with his then girlfriend’s, Trina, infidelity. However, bygones were accepted as Weezy brought Buck out on stagewith him at a show in Memphis, Tennessee, last year. Soon after, Wayne hopped in the studio with his former label mate and this track, “Ups & Downs“, was a result of their reunion. Look for an interview with Young Buck in the next few days..
To say this moment hasn’t been a “long time coming” for Bronx MC, Donny Goines, would be short changing the adversity and hardships he experienced, just throughout the past decade. After a stint in the military, Goines life began to spiral out of control with several encounters with law enforcement, until an appearance on Jay-Z’s “Fade To Black” DVD encouraged him to pursue rapping full-time. Fast forward to May 19, Goines finds himself releasing his sophomore album, The Breakfast Club, on the same day as hip-hop legends Eminem, Method Man and Redman and Busta Rhymes. Naming the album after after one of his favorite movies from the 1980’s, the theme looks to be the polar opposite of his first LP, the deep and dark A Minute After Midnight, with Goines showcasing a more relaxed and fun side of himself.
Goines’ buzz has been increasing by the day with his feature in XXL and appearances on radio shows, most recently with Peter Rosenberg. Even with the added attention, one of the major beliefs Goines has remained steadfast with has been his independent spirit. Unlike the other big name albums scheduled to drop, as a sign of appreciation for not only the music, but his fans as well, The Breakfast Club has been released as a free download with features from Mistah FAB, Termanology, Tanya Morgan, Skyzoo and Planet Asia and production from Dame Grease and Statik Selektah.
“We in a recession, so it’s free. You don’t have to cop anything, just go to a blog or website and download it,” said Goines.
With that in mind, follow his lead and click the link below. The above video is an intro he shot at the Red Studio in Harlem exclusively for KarenCivil.com.
I was a judge at the “Faces In the Crowd” event that took place a few nights ago. This monthly event brings together the hottest and most talented up-and-coming artists of tomorrow on one stage to showcase their talents and compete for an exciting prize package, including high-profile promotional opportunities and exclusive meetings with record label executives. Each showcase is judged by music industry professionals who are often times themselves seeking new talent. Each artist is scored in categories including stage presence, vocal ability, content of the music and more. At the conclusion of the event, winners are announced and prizes are awarded. Warner Brother’s artist Wiz Khalifa performed several tracks off his debut album, First Flight. I am begging his label to get him some vitamins and decent meal, he looked like an Olsen.
I’m confused to the purpose of this record. It’s supposed to be for Madonna LP, but who knows. Here is the reference version though…I will say, I do love the female singer on the track…she has that pop/r&b vibe.
My westcoast favorite Nipsey Hussle is back at it again, this time Nipsey brings you “Grams & Goldchains”..this will NOT be featured on “Bullets Aint Got No Name Vol 3″..just an exclusive joint for the KarenCivil.com readers..
On May 26, Julian Marley will release Awake, his first studio album in nearly six years, via the indie label, Ghetto Youths.
Recorded at the Lion’s Den in Miami, Florida and Tuff Gong in Kingston, Jamaica, the 16-track followup to 2003’s A Time and Place is said to reflect the inspiration of, “all the family who have come before [him].” Which means, one should expect a sound that, “incorporates the roots-reggae sound that Julian has made his own, infused with street-energy hip-hop, bubbling dancehall and a smooth combination of R&B and reggae.”
Julian will also be playing select dates on the Blazed and Confused tour with brother Stephen, Snoop Dogg and punk reggae veterans Slightly Stoopid.
