STACK BUNDLES: "TWO YEARS LATER"

karenstacks1Hip-hop, more so than any genre, evolves so quickly that news regarding the music is considered “dated” minutes after it is released to the masses. Millions upon millions of minutes have passed since June 11, 2007, when Byrdgang member and Far Rockaway Queens native, Rayquon Elliot, better known to the hip-hop community as Stack Bundles, was gunned down as he entered his apartment building early that morning. With time has come healing, but the memory of Bundles, considered arguably the most talented member of Jim Jones’ Brydgang imprint, still illuminates brightly.

“Stacks was my brother. We did over a hundred songs together. I was supposed to be shooting a video in Far Rockaway with his family today,” said former Brydgang member, Max B, who broke his silence while currently incarcerated in a New Jersey jail. “We still want to keep his name and music out there. May his soul rest in peace.”

Bundles, who had been associated with the likes of DJ Clue, Joe Budden and Fabolous for years, was finding himself on the cusp of graduating from mixtape mainstay to commercial commodity at the time of his death. With only mixtapes and guest features to his resume’, Stack’s name was already considered legendary in his neighborhood.

“I know heaven got swag now cause Bundles is up there,” said fellow Riot Squad member, BYNOE. “He was our Notorious B.I.G.”

One characteristic his peers always took note of was his originality both in and out the booth.

“Stack was original. He had a crazy swag that only he could pull off,” said his former Desert Storm cohort, DJ Clue. “As a rapper, he was as talented as some of the best.”

Unlike Stack’s fellow colleagues in the music industry and childhood friends, one group who has always remained notably silent was his family. The death of a child is a fear every parent never wishes to face. His father, Raymond Elliot, has coped with the situation in finding solace that his son properly used the “gift” that was afforded to him.

“I’ve been avoiding saying anything for interviews, but I’m proud of him. Really, really proud he was born with that gift, that light. All through his life, I knew he could do whatever he wanted to do,” said the elder Elliot.

A driving factor which keeps him moving forward is a very important promise he made to himself and his son.

“He was my first born, my baby, a beautiful child who never had any ill will against anyone. I made a commitment to put the best album out I can for him.”

Even two years after his untimely passing, Bundles is still considered one of New York’s most acclaimed artists and one who would have undoubtedly achieved mainstream success had circumstances differed.

At the time of his murder, Stack Bundles was only 24.

I’ve been fuckin with Stack Since DJ Clue’s “When Animals attack” mixtapes. since like 2003 and 2004. when I went to prison for a three year bid I couldn’t wait to come home and cop those mixtapes, old and new. I was watchin 106&park in 07, a few months before my relealse and Rich Boy was like ” R.I.P Stack Bundles”. I was like “what?!” Shocked, I was hoping I didn’t hear that correctly. He was a great talent and one of the best. One of the greats. Shit’s crazy. R.I.P my G. one love
