The Year Hip-Hop Went to Prison; Boosie's Sentence Doubled

From Tupac to Shyne, prison and Hip-Hop have always, unfortunately, been synonymous with one another. Arguably more so than any other year, 2009 has some of its more renowned names find themselves subjected to federally mandated vacations. T.I. has been locked down for several months now, but New Orleans rappers have been taking the brunt of the legal mishaps. Turk is still fighting for his freedom, as well as Mac. B.G. recently found himself in legal trouble over gun possession. Lil’ Wayne is awaiting sentencing on gun possession charges as well, and now Lil’ Boosie has had his two year sentence doubled to four for probation violation.

Baton Rouge rapper Torrence Hatch, better known as Lil Boosie, was back in court Monday after violating his probation.

District Court Judge Chip Moore revoked Hatch’s probation, sending him straight to jail.

Hatch was on house arrest with an ankle monitor. The monitor indicated that on more than one occasion, Hatch had violated the terms of his release.

Judge Moore doubled Hatch’s original sentence and ordered him to spend four years in prison.

On one hand, you’re left to assumption, “if you do the crime, you do the time”, which, in all honesty, is true. However, understanding these guys come from backgrounds and live lifestyles the majority of us will never experience is also something to take into account. I’m not defending their actions as “right”, but sometimes it’s more to the story than the news portrays. Ultimately, it becomes depressing when taking into account their art, which is the soundtrack for many, is over shadowed by demons they can no longer escape.

**Kudos to Rap Radar for the video.**
