Freddie Gibbs Featured In L.A. Weekly

Hopefully by now you all have scooped up Freddie G‘s latest project and totally introduced yourself to a dude I can call my homie and one of the realest, yet most promising names in music for the new decade. Recently, LA Weekly caught up with Gibbs for an amazing article on the story behind the music and his emotional and rocky road to the present day. It’s a story of success and pain narrated by the man who lived through it all. Here’s a snippet:

“My uncle went from a king to a fiend, before he got murdered,” Gibbs laments. “I watched him rob to pay for his habit. He was constantly locked up or in rehab. I once asked how he went from selling to smoking it. He said he’d been chasing that first great high for the last eight years.”

Though his uncle’s death steered him away from crack, it also forced Gibbs to confront concrete realities and left him with a simmering rage. “I learned how easy it was to kill. I developed the instinct that if someone fucked with me, I’d take care of them.”

Yeah, it only gets realer from there. Much respect to Freddie as he continues to build his brand and solidify his movement. To read of the article in its entirety, click here.

It’s truly hilarious seeing my mom’s backyard garden (at least the start of it) on blogs. And this really is an incredible article on Gibbs…
