"Numbers Don't Lie": Vol. 2

Right back like we never left. Hopefully you enjoyed the first installment of this because we’re returning with week two. By now, you should all know December 8 was a big day as far as albums hitting shelves were concerned. How’d they do you ask? Well, you just have to hit the jump for those answers.

1) Susan Boyle – I Dreamed A Dream – 582,724

  • These aren’t total sales either, she did those numbers in a week. I’m not mad at her at all and at the rate she’s going Boyle is going to have the highest selling album in quite some time. She’s approaching two million in sales with no signs of slowing down. I’m still sticking with my quintuple platinum hypothesis.

6) Chris Brown – Graffiti – 102,489

  • Chris finds himself debuting at #6 on the charts which is highly respectable. However, homie thinks he’s being blackballed out of his sales because some retailers refuse to put his album on the shelves. If that’s true, I see that as a bad business move, regardless of your personal feelings towards him. Anyway, I’d love to see “Famous Girl” made into a single. Had he not had his “situation” earlier this year, that song could be a monster hit by now.

8 ) Justin Bieber – My World – 101,256

  • This kid is moving units and moving them in mass quantities too. He’s been co-signed by Usher, John Mayer and Scooter Braun and has young girls collapsing at his concerts. Yeah, I’d say we’re looking at the rise of the next pop sensation with this young man. He even saw an increase in sales this week as he rose from #12 to #8 on the charts. I see you out here, Tay.

11) Gucci Mane – The State vs. Radric Davis – 89,166

  • Ok, here’s my confession. I’m a huge Gucci fan. I understand dude’s niche and he makes some excellent music to just ride around too. He’s not going to hit you with incredibly introspective lyrics or a rhyme scheme pattern that would make Lupe blush, BUT he does make some fun music. Ok, that said, I did not enjoy this album particularly much. Too many songs and too many damn features. I’m not even sure what Warner Brothers is pushing as the “official” singles because dude has like six videos out already. I’ll never knock his hustle though. I guess “buzz” doesn’t equate to record sales though.

22) Snoop Dogg – Malice N’ Wonderland – 66,104

  • This was by far one of the better albums of the year so I was hoping it could have sold a tad bit more. “I Wanna Rock” is becoming the new “A Milli”, but a video for “Different Languages” feat. Jazmine Sullivan or arguably the best song on the album, “Beautiful”, with Brandy and Pharrell would be an excellent look. Despite the sales, Snoop can still craft quality products.

36) Timbaland – Shock Value 2 – 37,834

  • Timbo says he’s done with rap and focusing strictly on pop music. I’m pretty sure if he releases one of those songs with Miley Cyrus on the album as a single he’d see a spike in those numbers.

48) Clipse – Till The Casket Drops – 29,875

  • Personally, I was disappointed in this number because this is a dope album. These two have been grinding since last year promoting this album and I just wish they would have seen a tad bit more return on their investment. I saw these guys in concert in DC at SneakerPimps and they definitely had the entire crowd in the palm of their hands. “Champion” is a personal favorite of mine and a pretty good choice I’d think for a follow up single.

Next week, Alicia Keys and Robin Thicke make their debuts on the charts. And Susan Boyle will likely sell around 500,000 copies, too.
