It’s been awhile, but the newest edition of “Civilized Talk” finds us with one of 2010′s most promising acts, Gary, Indiana’s, Freddie Gibbs. By now, his story is known to most who follow his music. From signing to Interscope, to being shelved by Interscope, to being dropped by Interscope, to returning to the dark callings of the streets only to return to music…that’s Freddie’s musical life in a nutshell.
I recently had the chance to speak with Freddie on a pool of subjects including:
- Finding the right balance on how much music to release
- If he has felt any pressure to sign with a label since his close friend, Pill, has done so
- If he has found any backlash from record companies over the name of his latest mixtape, “The Labels Tryin’ To Kill Me”
- Facing his father (who is a cop) after he was arrested and how his mother feels about his lyrics towards females
- His perception of fans and how they perceive him
- His feelings on current events: Haiti, Gilbert Arenas, Superbowl predictions
- The possibility of a mixtape with Pill
Also, be on the look out for Freddie G’s newest project, “Str8 Killa, No Filla” coming soon.
