Pick Up This Book Before Picking Up A Microphone

As a young boy or girl, did you ever day dream about becoming a respected lyrical beast also known as a rapper? Were there times you imagine yourself in the boxing ring rapping LL Cool J’s classic “Mama said Knock You Out” or on boat Jay-Z filmed “Big Pimpin” on? Well now there is a way for you to become the rap phenomenon you always dreamed to be.
Recently Chicago Review Press has released the book “How to Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC.” Written by Paul Edwards, this exclusive read gives the reader a full access to the many methods and processes used to formulate a success rapping technique. With the foreword written by legendary MC Kool G Rap, over 100 lyricist lent their voice and professional intel on what it takes to be a successful and efficient rapper.
Some MC’s who were interviewed for this potential rap breakthrough were veterans Big Daddy Kane, Mobb Deep, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy and a Tribe Called Quest. However it also included some of the most recent acts such as the Clipse, Nelly, Styles P, Papoose and the Black Eyed Peas.
Not only are exclusive interviews offered but this How To guide breaks down the sometimes controversial as well as difficult “flow” conjured up by phenom’s Eminem, Jay-Z, and Nas. It also delves into the writing and delivery of a artist inspecting the content as well as how it will be perceived by the masses.
One of the United States top poet Dana Gioia has stated:
“How to Rap marks a cultural coming-of-age for Hip-Hop—the first comprehensive poetics of this new literary form.”
I cannot fully endorse such a book however it is a MUST read on my 2010 book list. Never dreaming to be a rapper there is a true fascination of the art and process in which it takes to become a successful rapper. If you are intrigued by this or a hip hop lover in general this book is one to search for on amazon.
