J. Cole Finally Unveils Album Release Date

J. Cole sat down with Jenny Boom Boom in the BET Awards Radio Room over the weekend to discuss his album, and shared that he’d be dropping his yet-to-be-titled debut on (or before) October 26th. The anticipation buzzing around this release is major, so I’m sure that J. will be pushing for it to be released as soon as possible.

Lloyd Helped Spawn Chris Brown's "Comeback"

By now, Chris Brown’s performance at the BET Awards last Sunday has been talked about, analyzed and dissected by everyone somewhat associated with pop culture. It was one of those moments that when his career ultimately comes to a close and a documentary is shot on his life, his Michael Jackson tribute will be known as one of those “career making” moments. One time worldwide pop star shunned by a domestic violence mistake only to return to glory in an emotional performance on a big stage? Yeah, that script couldn’t have been written any better.

Personally, I believed the performance was authentic. Turns out, Lloyd did too. The singer, who has been friends with Brown for years, said he spoke to the embattled R&B artist weeks before the awards show. He told Chris to win the acceptance of the mainstream public back, he’d have to “let that emotion out.” Lloyd recently caught up with AllHipHop to give an official statement on the matter. The Dream Releases Three Videos At Once

Actually, it’s a near 13 minute video covering three songs – “Yamaha,” “Nikki Pt. 2″ and “Abyss.” A rather creative (and cost effective) venture, especially considering if you sit through the entire thing. One of the better thing of the LoveKing album is its transitions. The transitions between tracks 6-8 are one of the best examples of such, which is probably why he chose these three to create visuals for. (Keep reading…)

Yele Haiti Continues To Distribute Aid in Haiti

Nearly 6 months after a devastating earthquake rattled the small country of Haiti leaving over 200,000 dead and 2 million homeless, Wyclef Jean‘s organization Yele Haiti is still on the ground distributing aid to those in need. In this video update, volunteers are seen organizing items at a Yele Haiti distribution center, and visiting the children of the Jean et Marie Orphanage in the nation’s capitol of Port-Au-Prince.

Jazmine Sullivan – "Holding You Down"

After a brief hiatus,  Jazmine Sullivan is back with fresh new music. “Holding You Down” is set to be the first single from Sullivan’s yet-to-be-titled sophomore album and was produced by her long time collaborator Missy Elliot.

This track is the perfect combination of hip hop and R&B…it even features a sample of Biz Markie‘s classic “Make The Music With Your Mouth” (which was also used on Mya & Jay-Z‘s “Best Of Me” Remix.) This will be a great addition to any summer playlist.

Props to LBS.

Catalog Catch Up: The Roots feat. Common & Dice Raw – "The Show"

If you’re thinking of picking up an album, strongly consider The Roots new project How I Got Over. This Philly based group is one that I’ve always felt people respected. However, I feel many never took the time to get to know what their music actually symbolized. They’ll never be a mainstream commodity, but the LP’s has always spoken for themselves. I’ll even admit to not being their biggest fan ever. Yet, I always took the time to listen whenever they released new product. It’s called consumer confidence. That and I’ve been a Black Thought fan since he went syllable for syllable with Big Pun on “Super Lyrical.”

Found on 2008′s Rising Down, “The Show” featuring Common and Dice Raw is an excellent showing of lyricism, meshed over triumphant instrumental. (Keep reading…)
