DJ Toomp Talks Kanye, New Album

I know “Power” leaked and everyone lost their minds (myself included). I know Kanye even performed the song as the opening performance at this year’s BET Awards. But, it still doesn’t seem like Kanye has officially “returned.” He’s still not all over TV and that feeling of an actual push hasn’t been initiated yet. There’s no need to be worried because Dr. West’s baby boy has reached a level of success and notoriety in his career that he can really come and go as he pleases. He’s an asshole, yeah, but one thing is for sure: his music rarely, if ever, disappoints.

At this moment, Good Ass Job is still slated to drop September 14. Whether that sticks or not, only time will tell. One of the producers on the album, however, has been the man who helped T.I. spawn into the artist he is today: DJ Toomp. Now listen, if you tell me Toomp is producing on a Kanye album, that right there tells me it deserves my $9.99 from Best Busy. ‘Ye could rap the ABC’s over Toomp’s production and the outcome would make little babies in Europe cry tears of joy. That’s consumer confidence for that ass.

Anyway, DJ Smallz caught up with Toomp. The legendary producer confirmed he’s been out in Hawaii for more than just vacation. Let the producer tell it, Good Ass Job is “incredible.” I sure hope so. A new Kanye album for the fall is something I’ve been anticipating since last fall.
