Eminem’s $1M Super Bowl Commercial

Like most red blooded Americans, I feel confident Eminem will be watching the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers play in Super Bowl 45 on Sunday evening. Yet, unlike most of us, Eminem will be making a cool million dollars while watching the game. You see, Marshall has a commercial set to air during that highly lucrative block of television which features him in Claymation for a Lipton Brisk iced-tea ad.

A NY Post insider says it’s “very funny.” We’ll all judge for ourselves come Sunday.

Durant Dubs Bosh One Of NBA’s ‘Fake Tough Guys’

Yesterday (Jan. 30) Kevin Durant drew a rare technical foul in the first quarter of his game for jawing with Miami’s Chris Bosh. And that’s not all the mild-mannered Durant had to say.

When asked about the verbal spat between the two after the game, Durant didn’t mince words for Bosh. He called the former Toronto All-Star forward a “fake tough guy” who talks because he’s on a good team now.

“I was talking to my teammate and he decided he wanted to put his 2 cents into it. I’m a quiet guy, a laid-back guy, but I’m not going to let nobody talk trash to me. He’s on a good team now, so he thinks he can talk a little bit,” Durant said.

“There’s a lot of fake tough guys in this league and he’s one of them,” Durant added.

YM’s Cory Gunz Announces MTV Docu-series, “Son Of A Gun”

Back in 2009, Gunz partnered with Cannon and told Mixtape Daily that he and the Nickelodeon exec had plans aligned to showcase a close look at the persistence of then-mixtape star, now-Young Money’s newest signed act.

“Me and Nick got a couple things under wraps,” Gunz explained. “We’re trying to make a couple big things happen. We’re trying to do things real elegant for ’09, ’10 and beyond. We [got] a couple projects in the works. Nick has been real instrumental behind the scenes on the project. And he’s opened a couple of doors for me. Nick is my big brother now, for real. He’s opening doors for me, giving me opportunities in and out of the studio. It’s about to be ugly.”

Nicki Minaj and Jesse Eisenberg Dominate SNL with Second Highest Season Rating

Saturday Night Live reeled in its second highest ratings Jan. 29 with hosts Jesse Eisenberg and musical guest Nicki Minaj. Averaging a preliminary 3.2 rating in 25 markets with adults ranging in the ages 18-49. That ties the second highest adults 18-49 rating of the season, only trailing the January 8 episode, which featured Jim Carrey.

via NBC press note:

In late-night metered-market households Saturday night:

“Saturday Night Live” (5.1/12 in metered-market households) hosted by Jesse Eisenberg with musical guest Nicki Minaj and a special appearance by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, dominated its time period. Versus the same night last year, “SNL” is up 1 percent in metered-market households (5.1 versus 5.0).

In the 25 Local People Meter markets, “Saturday Night Live” tied the September 25 season premiere as the second-highest-rated edition of the season in 18-49, behind only the January 8 telecast, which benefited from a high-rated primetime NFL game on NBC that night.

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Saturday Night Live” averaged a 3.2 rating, 14 share in adults 18-49, making it the #1 non-sports telecast of the night, ahead of all primetime entertainment programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox.

Does Teyana Taylor Really Have G.O.O.D. News?

VIBE sat down with Teyana Taylor following what was a “big meeting” with two big artists. From there, speculation arose that Taylor would be signing to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label. Tracking back, she appeared most recently on Ye’s holiday ode, “Christmas In Harlem,” and on the opening track “Dark Fantasy” to his now platinum My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

TT doesn’t officially announce any sort of signing, but upon watching the interview, it is easy to see why so many are speculating she did, or is about to.; especially with the amount of “good” references. Well, my sources tell me that Jimmy Iovine and Interscope Records, her current label, are not about to let such a move go down. Still, that does not mean Teyanna and Kanye will not be working frequently. She is rumored to appear on the upcoming Watch The Throne album and word is Jimmy is willing to shelve over the big bucks to let ‘Ye produce much of Taylor’s long awaited solo debut.

Lastly, whoever she ends up affliating with (Interscope or G.O.O.D.), they need to run professional interviewing etiquette 101 by her. Eating while trying to answer questions isn’t exactly the most appealing look in the world.

DJ Kool Herc Calls On Hip Hop For Help During Medical Troubles

In a roundabout way, DJ Kool Herc is responsible for the words you’re reading on this site and every other outlet dedicated to covering Hip-Hop. You see, Herc has long been considered one of the creators of this genre and he did so way before many of us were even born, myself included. Admittedly, I do not know as much about his legacy as others do, but allow this paragraph to seep in to gauge his true impact.

Herc, born Clive Campbell, came to prominence in the late 70’s DJ’ing parties throughout the South Bronx. Herc’s deep crates and eclectic mix of records (Funk, Latin, Jazz, etc.) are credited for sparking what we know as Hip-Hop today. Taking two of the same record, Herc would isolate and extend popular segments of recordings, which became known as “breaks.” A party he threw for his sister Cindy Campbell on August 11, 1973 at 1520 Sedgwick Ave in the Bronx is credited as the day Hip-Hop was born.

Yeah, he BIRTHED an entire genre. Or so the legend goes. You would think a man with such a groundbreaking innovation would reap the monetary benefits of such an accomplishment. Unfortunately, it is quite the opposite. (Keep reading…)

Yelawolf feat. Rich Boy – “I Just Wanna Party (Remix)”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

A couple of things:

1. I really wish the original version of this track would have taken off more than it did. Gucci’s verse was entertaining and fit the song damn near perfectly.

2. Rich Boy’s first album is still criminally slept on. At least, that’s what I chose to believe.  Hopefully we can get the long awaited follow up this year.

3. Rich did his thing on this even though the title can be sort of misleading. It’s just his verse.

4. Expect to find this as well as other exclusives on DJ Smallz’s I Got The Internet Goin’ Nuts! Vol. 3 set to drop Valentine’s Day.

5. Yelawolf is dope. But you already knew that though.

Steve Harvey To Speak Publicly On Ex-Wife Scandal

Comedian and best-selling author, Steve Harvey, has found himself in a controversial bind when Mary Harvey, ex-wife, posted a series of three YouTube videos totaling in 25 minutes last weekend. In her videos she claims he was unfaithful during their 17-year-marriage, took her wealth, took custody of their thirteen-year-old son, Wynton, and includes excerpts of letters and e-mails she said she intercepted between Harvey and his current wife, Marjorie.

More than five-years after their divorce, Mary blasts former husband and lands a CNN interview with Jane Velez-Mitchell about the “tell-all” videos she posted about her ex-husband.

In response, a statement from Steve Harvey’s attorney, Bobbie Edmonds, states:

“We are appalled and aware of the videos and other fabricated documents … which contained false, misleading, derogatory, disparaging, malicious, explicit and slanderous information about Mr. Harvey, his current wife and others.”

The statement adds: “The ex-wife is fully aware of the court’s current orders and permanent injunctions which prohibit either party, their lawyers or representatives from discussing and releasing information on the Internet and to the media. We are taking the necessary legal steps to rectify this matter to the full extent of the law and we will be seeking contempt and sanctions against her for such reprehensible and callous disregard for the court orders.”

Chris Brown Requests Removal On Rihanna Restraining Order

Nearly two years after his assault on Rihanna, Chris Brown appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Friday (Jan. 28) for a progress report where his attorney requested the removal of the restraining order against his client. Allegedly, Chris hopes to obtain the lift in time for next month’s Grammy Awards where he is nominated for 3 awards (Best R&B Performance By A Duo, Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration). While the restraining order is still in place, Chris is not allowed to come within 100 yards of Rihanna, except for at special events (such as Award Shows), at a minimal 10 yards.

His attorney, Mark Geragos,  explained to the judge that the restraining order makes it difficult for the both of them to attend, but before the request can be granted, Rihanna’s attorney must approve of the modification from a “stay away” order to a “do not annoy.”

Brown, who has been working hard on rebuilding his reputation since, has had his publicist move in swiftly on allegations to deny claims that the singer wanted the ban relaxed for Grammy Award  show purposes.

The spokesperson tells TMZ.com:

“This court date and the lifting of the restraining order is part of the planned ongoing legal proceedings. The date was scheduled months ago. Chris Brown is very thankful for his Grammy nominations, but due to scheduling conflicts, he will not be attending the Grammys.”
