Last night Big Sean was in Philly with Cosmic Kev and of course he blessed the microphone with a freestyle. Every true Big Sean fan knows that his lyrical ability is out of this world, and for those people who do not believe this, after this three minute freestyle, you’ll change your mind. Big Sean says that this freestyle contains bars from his upcoming album, and if this is what we can expect from the album then Big Sean will most certainly open some more eyes to those who doubt him.

J.Cole was in Atlantic City last night at the House Of Blues and decided to give the fans something new before he performed “Before I’m Gone” off of the Friday Night Lights mixtape. No word as to where the verse will land or even if it will land anywhere but it’s always good to hear something new from Cole.

Side note: Maino isn’t the first to use the “Biggie Is Back” treatment. Tommy Stars beat him to the punch last week.

It’s tough for anyone to land a job nowadays and the music industry is no different. Universal Music Group has been seeing shake ups in its hierachy and the latest is to none other than Sylvia Rhone. While reports say the split happened gracefully, what’s potentially next for Rhone could be a step down from what she was normally accustomed.

One source told Digital Music News that Rhone could be given leadership of an unimportant imprint, effectively neutering her power to impact artist selection and company direction.  ”Rhone might get some sort of imprint, but would lack any power,” the source shared.  At present, Universal Music Group is staying mum on the matter, though this has the markings of a delicate push.

This sort of turbulence is getting routine, and insiders predicted just this sort of treatment for legacy executives – and Doug Morris loyalists.  Just a few days ago, Universal Music Group Publishing chairman David Renzer exited the building, and sources to Digital Music News pointed to a rift with incoming UMG chairman Lucian Grainge.  Additionally, the longtime vet Renzer is suspected of carrying a hefty compensation package, always a liability in these matters.

I’m standing by my word: J. Cole’s debut album will be released before the end of 2011. Granted, that statement was more based off faith than knowledge, but even Cole himself knows the clock is ticking. He also understands the frustration of his fans who have been clamoring for the album even before the massively successful Friday Night Lights was released last November.

“I know my fans are frustrated with me, because I won’t give a date,” he said in an interview.”I only gave a date one time in my career last year, and I smacked myself in the face because it was so unrealistic. Now I say it’s coming soon, and it’s really true, because we’re in the final stages right now.”

He later went on to mention that even the astronomical expectations of the public pale in comparison to his own. At some point though, anticipation will turn into review and the wait will (hopefully) make the end result that much more special. Still, no one ever said every process to a debut album was identical. We’ll all have to continue to play the waiting game, mainly because we have no other option.

We have Cash Money. We have Young Money. And now, according to Mack Maine, a new label is on the horizon. MTV caught up with YM’s President as he revealed info regarding a new business venture in which Mack is heading.

It’s easy to crack a joke in a situation like this, but talking down on someone’s mother has never been my style, especially when the topic is drug related. Keyshia Cole’s mother, Frankie Lons, has been a lightening rod for controversy since the moment she came into the public eye. Her past troubles were never shied away from and they seem to be manifesting themselves in the present. TMZ reports Lons is in jail for possession of “drug-related material.”

Law enforcement tells us … cops stopped Frankie for a routine traffic violation yesterday when they noticed an active warrant out for her arrest stemming from a probation violation.

We’re told cops then performed a search — and found “drug-related material” on her person.

Lons was arrested and transported to a nearby jail — where she was booked for the probation violation and misdemeanor possession of drug-related material.

As of this morning, Frankie was still in custody.
