Shanell – “How To Love”

Young Money‘s beautiful singer Shanell takes a crack at Lil Wayne’s latest single to give some insight from a females perspective. I always thought that Wayne should have put her on the hook of the original song but nonetheless it still worked for him and we still get a cover from Shanell. I’m hoping Shanell continues to give us a new music being that we don’t get much from her.

DMX – “Sucka 4 Love”

Well, umm, this is some unreleased Dark Man X. Every time new music from Earl surfaces I, unfairly, condition myself to think that it’s going to sound like the X we knew from the first two albums. Why I set myself up for that, I couldn’t even tell you. “Sucka 4 Love” isn’t exactly the greatest song in the world. Ok, to be fair, it’s not that great at all. But new DMX is new DMX and someone out there can appreciate it. Just not me.

I’ll just play “How’s It Goin’ Down” – one of my favorite singles of all time, for the record – and forget this one happened. That being said, I wish X nothing but the best in the future. You know what a quality DMX album would mean for Hip-Hop these days?

Lupe Fiasco Praises Lil B and “Im Gay” Album

Yesterday, Lil B did the unthinkable and dropped his awaited and highly controversial “I’m Gay” album. The Based God also did something that no label has been able to do for more than a decade, and that’s release an retail album without it leaking out to the masses. How he did it is still yet to be figured out but if you haven’t got a chance to get it, make sure you do that on iTunes. I’ve listened to it numer Bous times and it’s pretty good. Don’t believe me? Well why don’t you take Lupe Fiasco’s word for it. He recently praised Lil B and his work in a blog on his website. An excerpt from the blog is below.

So Lil B is from The Bay and he’s a youth hahaha we can stop right here! He already good in my book. But what gets Lil B admission into my coveted genre of “Liberation Rock” is his absolute lack of fear when it comes to challenging the status quo. Whether it be in hip-hop, which is very elitist and caste and class oriented, or just society in general, which is very elitist and class centric. His albeit “rocky” road musically has been honestly at times unbearable to walk on. Some of Lil B’s past works have been underwhelming to say the least and at moments I would seriously consider heading out for smoother pavement. But every now and again an absolute jewel would come to the surface and I’d find myself unable to fathom leaving this kids side for any reason. The vulgar lyrics, happy go lucky cooking dances and sometimes pointless stream of conscious style rambling started to give way to hints of a deadly serious revolutionary mentality lurking underneath.

Excuse my lateness. But better late than never, right? I have no idea how this slipped under my nose but it did. Here is the latest track from Troy Ave which will serve as his first single off of his upcoming project. He recruits Prodigy for a verse and John Scino for the production. Be on the look out for a lot more Troy Ave in the next month. Bricks in my Backpack 2: Powder to the People drops in July

All you smokers who need some weed, look no further. Slaughterhouse’s Joell Ortiz has it for you and he has it in all different assortments with different names. He flips T.I.’s “Rubberband Man” (somewhat) and turns it into his own anthem. The Life And Times Of Sebastian Rios, on the way
