Billboard Breakdown – August 31

1. Game – R.E.D. Album – 97,528 - Well, despite what anyone may have to say about the guy, he’s got another #1 album. And while it won’t happen, a video for “Ricky” would be dope.

2. Jay-Z & Kanye West – Watch The Throne – 94,227 - Creeping up on platinum, who knows if we’ll see another video for this project. But if they’re taking suggestions, “Made In America” doesn’t sound like a bad choice at all. In case you Beyonce fans were wondering, she’s at #12 this week.

3. Adele – 21 – 82,206 - Hip Hop or not, she’s going to sell regardless.

33. Kelly Rowland - Here I Am  - 9,386 - I was flipping through TV the other day and Kelly was on that Melo and LaLa show and she was about to get hooked up with Aaron Afflalo. What’s this have to do with anything? Nothing, actually. Talk around town though is that she’s already working on her second album. Good for her. May as well strike while the iron’s still hot. About that second single though?  (Keep reading…)

The next piece in the puzzle that is Pusha T’s solo career has fallen in place. To go along with his alignment with G.O.O.D. Music, Pusha has also signed on with Def Jam. Of the deal, the prestige of the label and their willingness to work with his vision was the key signing point.

Bun B Has A Day Named After Him In Houston

And truthfully, it couldn’t have happened to a better person in Hip Hop. Bun has long been a legend in the game for a variety of reasons. Now whether the city government of Houston knows exactly what those reasons happens to be another story for another time. Regardless, the city awarded Uncle Bun his own day in H-Town. Mayor Annise Parker set the proclamation in stone that from now until the end of time, every August 30 will be known as “Bernard ‘Bun B’ Freeman Day.” Pretty trill, right?

Somewhere up in heaven, in an all white mink, I like to believe Chad Butler is smiling down.

Wale Feat. Jeremih & Rick Ross – “That Way” Video

Finally!!

Why it took so long for this video to emerge, I have no clue. But it’s here now and that’s all that matters. MMG’s Self Made had its flaws, no doubt. Yet, one of the better and more entertaining strengths was this track right here. It fit Wale’s wordplay as well as Ross‘ theatric voice almost to a tee making for one of the more replayable tracks on the entire LP.

In fact, Wale should use this for the first single from his sophomore album, Ambition, dropping November 1. Or so the powers that be say. And between this hook and his one on Lloyd Banks‘ “I Don’t Deserve You,” Jeremih should just be a hook man for hire. He killed this one.

The Dream – “Wake Me When It’s Over”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Here is the intro track from The Dream‘s upcoming free LP that will be dropping tomorrow evening. It’s been awhile since we’ve heard any type of project from Dream, so I’m hoping he lives up to the expectations I have for this LP. His album “The Love, IV (Diary of a Mad Man)” was set to be released on September 20th but I’m assuming that it will receive a delay, so this LP should hold us over until we get the album.
