The R&B crooner and amazing song writer known as Frank Ocean is set to release his latest album and embark on his multi-city tour, both tentatively titled ‘Channel Orange‘, but before the album drops we prepare our eyes and ears for the many pre-release reviews. One review from BBC 1 Xtra‘s Max has posted a preview via her personal webblog with the following excerpt, which you can view after the jump!

Frank has also opened up about his sexuality on the album, we think it’s brave and admire him for being so honest and sharing such a personal aspect of his life through his music. On the songs ‘Bad Religion’ ‘Pink Matter and ‘Forrest Gump’ you can hear him sing about being in love and there are quite obvious words used like ‘him’ and not ‘her’.
In the world we live in now we can’t see this being an issue or why it should be?? But we do commend him for not continuing a facade and conforming to what a Hip Hop so called rule book expects, we say live your life and be yourself. If you love women and men, that’s your business.

Powerful and unexpecting to say the least, we can only wait to hear these mentioned songs when the album releases. But before that, we ask the entire urban world: Would this potential news help or harm Frank Ocean’s career? Will it make some fans turn against his highly respected craft? What are your thoughts?

Update: Frank Just blogged the following on his personal site:

I have a new found respect for him. It’s very brave of him to open up about his sexuality, especially in the industry he’s in. I will continue to support him & his music no matter what his sexual preference is. He’s an incredible artist.

I completely agree. I believe he is a musical genius and his pure talent will outshine whatever his sexual preference may or may not be. Also, Frank has never been in any kind of category or box and since he is so diverse I don’t believe his career will be hurt, if anything it will enhance. In the end no matter what I will be a fan because he is very talented.

  2. Listen says:

He writes a lot of his songs from a woman’s perspective. Thinking About You is from a woman’s perspective. This doesn’t mean he’s gay.

I think it’s going to be interesting to see what the hip hop industry will do with this information….smh, sadly i’m already prepared for the worse :-/. But I wish him the best!

  4. What does the Hip-Hop community have to do with Frank Ocean when he’s an R&B singer? Also, aren’t the majority of his songs written from a female perspective to begin with? Regardless if he’s gay, straight, bisexual, transsexual, or whatever the hell we classify shit these days, he makes great music and I’ll be supporting it either way.

This is so speculative members of the press should be ashamed of themselves for propelling rumors. Several journalists have previewed the album and didn’t come to the same conclusion that he was gay. This is just poor sensationalism journalism. Shame on you. There is not a single quote from Ocean confirming his sexuality but because a single writer decides he’s bisexual he is. So silly.

  6. Lostones says:

What a terrible article, did you even consider actually finding out what the song was about before slandering the mans career? smfh.

  7. Fucking retards. He writes records for female vocalists too, That’s why he uses “Him”.

Well truth is he makes good music regardless of his sexual orientation. That might affect that sales of his album though, but coming out of the closet to admit what he truly is earns him my unreserved respect literally. Its a hard hard thing to do, especially in an industry where concealing deep secrets seems to be the order of the day. Wow….i’m quite disappointed he is gay though, but in all i definitely admit and respect the courage it took for him to open up!!!!!!

Except one thing, HE ISN’T HIP HOP IDIOT. It annoys the hell out of me when people call an artist “Hip Hop” just because he’s black or is associated with Hip Hop acts. It’s cool he came out and all that’s fine but KNOW what you’re talking about before making posts.
