If there’s one thing Rihanna and I have in common, it’s we both love our grandmothers. And her song “We Found Love.” That’s two, but the main point to focus on here is the first one.
Rih-Rih’s grandmother, Clara Braithwaite (affectionally known as Gran Gran Dolly), passed away earlier this year after a battle with cancer. Crediting her grandmother teaching her the values of forgiveness, loving one’s enemies, individuality and strength as a woman, you start to obtain more of an appreciation for the person and/or rebel Rih is. Anywho, still obviously close with her late-grandmother, Rihanna recently donated $1.75M to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in her native Barbados.
“This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program,” Rihanna shared in a statement. “I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives, or at least extend them.”
She’ll probably do something later this week to have her naysayers pointing at and ridiculing her again – like smoking weed at an airport or something – but give credit where it’s due. I love my grandma and can’t wait to give her a hug when I see her later today once I get off the highway. And I know Rih-Rih loved hers, and will continue to do so. If I had $2M to donate, I’d name something after mine, too. Like a small town.
