MGK finds himself on the cover of this months winter issue of YRB magazine. The issue is set to hit newsstands a little later in the month and in this issue, MGK opens up about his childhood, what type of parent he is and his rise to stardom. Be sure to get the magazine to read the full length interview but until then, you can view a few excerpts after the jump.
“I was bullied a lot in school but because I was a hothead, I always just dealt with it. When rap battling started that was a huge turning point in my life. One day there was a battle going on in the schoolyard and I decided to jump in on it.”
“It’s kind of funny that I always seem to idolize the wrong people. Most of them are strung out drug addicts like Kurt Cobain, DMX, or other dudes like that.”
ON WHAT THE INDUSTRY HAS TAUGHT HIM:
“I have learned many things along the way, but by far the biggest lesson for me has been to treasure what you have….You become friends with artists and they act as if they are there for you through the ups and downs, but you learn after time they too fall off the map.”
HIS LIFE WITH HIS DAUGHTER:
“My daughter means everything to me. It took three years for my daughter not to run away from me because she wasn’t accustomed to seeing me that often. I would return home from being on the road, and it would take her about an hour to even smile at me…”
