kid-cudi-indicud

A day late, but still not a dollar short.

2. KiD CuDi – Indicud – 136,000 - I’m still trying to decide how I feel about this album. Nevertheless, pushing this in the first week with no real radio/TV push is quite impressive. Or good. Pun sorta-kinda intended.

black-thought

You stay in the game long enough, chances are you’re bound to ruffle someone’s feathers or have someone ruffle yours. Such was exactly case on the inaugural episode of Combat Jack TV when the legendary Black Thought stopped by. With a career as storied as his, topics can go all sorts of ways. However, when the conversation shifted around to his short-lived beef with fellow legend, Nas, ears of Hip-Hop nerds nationwide perked up.

7. Tyga – Hotel California – 54,000 - I guess he can’t be too mad at these numbers given the fact there’s no real big single blowing up radio.

ron-gerald-vol-2

This was actually supposed to go up a week ago, but for whatever reason never did. Singer/songwriter Ron Gerald returns just in time for spring with his newest collection of ballads on Vol. 2.

What’s interesting of note here is the level of progression Gerald takes musically on V2. Already a talented musician, Gerald’s overall showmanship on the project is on front street, most evident in his two most notable features – singing and songwriting. As I’ve told him before, his voice being so different often times forces me to sit with his projects longer than the normal. Yet, it works for him and apparently a lot of others too as he’s been getting his name in more and more circles around the underground New York City market.

His songwriting, however? That serves as the highlight of the tape. For me, at least. It’s something I’ve been seeing more and more of in the R&B field – a return and focus on actual songwriting instead of re-creating whatever the flavor of the moment is. Gerald taps into his own brand of penmanship delivering more than enough entries on V2 to help set the scene for a variety of occasions.

Feel free to make that distinction for yourself upon clicking play. And pending the music moves you, head over to Ron’s site to download the tape in full.
