The Sixth Annual Roots Jam Session

778252337_9Zpt8-M-1

The memories from this past weekend continue to stockpile. For everyone who was in attendance at the Sixth Annual Roots Jam Session Saturday night, they know it was something special and one of the weekend’s shining moments. The Roots are by far Hip-Hop’s most talented and respected live band it was none the more evident than this night.

It was great to see Scott Storch back creating music again, but Jay Electronica’s performance of his critically acclaimed track, “Exhibit C,” sent everyone in attendance over the top. It truly is crazy to see how one track can do so much for an artist’s buzz in the industry. Let’s just hope Jay continues with this momentum and translates it into an official release of some sort. Of course, Young Money was in attendance as well. Mack Maine and Shanell graced the stage with The Roots as she performed her song, “Glamorous Life.” Lil’ Twist was also in the building. Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party

Karen Civil

This weekend I had the opportunity to take a trip every music lover dreams of, Los Angeles for Grammy weekend. For all the complaints people may have about the “biggest night in music,” being around the talent and legacy of those who make the event is a phenomenal feeling. Last night I had the chance to attend arguably the most prestigious party in music, the annual Clive Davis Pre-Grammy party. All of the urban legends about the party are, in fact, true. It was a literal who’s who of industry heavyweights all mingling to a great atmosphere and the best music.

Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, Usher, Taylor Swift, Keri Hilson, Katy Perry, Maxwell, Smokey Robinson and a host of others all piled inside the Beverly Hilton. It truly was a surreal event. Not only because of the talent in the room, but because these were people who took their talent, harnessed it into something amazing and are now having it displayed to the entire world. From the moment and artist decides they want to make music, this is where they ultimately dream of finding themselves. My opportunity to meet both Clive Davis and Mary J. Blige will serve as professional and personal hightlights. Read rest of story…

Why Lupe's Climb Is So Important

lupeday5-3

As a rapper, one’s goal is to reach the proverbial mountaintop of their profession. Well, Lupe Fiasco did. Literally. Along with Kenna, SantigoldJessica Biel and several others, the group braved the trip and found themselves at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest point and one of the largest mountains in the world.  The expedition was known as “Summit On The Summit.”

Obviously the group wasn’t climbing strictly just to say they climbed a mountain. The mission was to raise awareness for the global clean water crisis. Through no fault of our own, it is often easy to take clean water for granted. This isn’t true for many parts of the world, especially in many nations in Africa. We’ve all seen the commercials with young kids forced to live in the worst type of poverty imaginable. In many cases, even clean water is considered a luxury which is beyond difficult to comprehend. Street Dreamz Christmas w/ Young Jeezy

sdparty

During this season, we all reflect on the year we have had and think how blessed we are. Looking back on his many blessings, rapper and entrepreneur, Young Jeezy knows how important it is to give back.

With his Non-Profit foundation called Street Dreamz, Young Jeezy has found an amazing way to pay it forward. By glancing through these pictures, Thanksgiving event, the children may look familiar to you. Not only has he blessed these children with a great Holiday season, hehas also given a gift that will truly make a difference, the gift of a mentor. When the season of giving is over Jeezy will continue to be involved with these children lives and do his best to ensure their success on the right path in life.

Last night Jeezy shut down the famed restaurant Justins’s in ATL owned by music mogul Sean Diddy Combs to have a private party for his beloved kids. Everyone enjoyed themselves as they ate the delicious food and danced the night away. While he did hand out gifts at the end, Jeezy will continue to play Daddy Warbucks and is preparing to shut down an entire gym and fill it with toys just for them.

Now if this isn’t the way for a kid to celebrate Christmas then I don’t know what is.

Wyclef Brings Christmas Cheer To Haiti

sc

It’s the seasoning of giving and Wyclef has done so through international channels.

Known for his humanitarian work in Africa as well as his homeland of Haiti, the former Fugees front man Wyclef Jean partnered with Western Union to bring Christmas cheer to the unfortunate children of Haiti.

Yesterday, Wyclef boarded a plane from Miami international airport to Haiti where he gave out gifts to its unfortunate children.  Before taking off  for this special occasion Wyclef took to twitter to express his thoughts.

He states:

When looking back @ my past it makes me believe that there is a force greater then me that is Governing the Universe.@ times when I go to haiti I ask myself what would have happen if I never made it to America what would I be doing right now?
–What if I never became Wyclef n wyclef was getting on the plane today to Come to haiti to bring me Food n Christmas Gifts how would I feel. When I Reflect of such things it makes me Understand that to live for others is the Non selfish way to live.

@ times we R so caught up with R selves that we forget about those around Us. some say they can’t help the needy because they have no money to give to the poor I say know one gave me money n the hut they gave me Hope. A man once said 2 me wyclef giving hope is not enuff da hungry can’t eat Hope, da hungry can’t eat hope but hope Can lead da hungry to food. The Good teaches Us that when Christ showed Up n the clubs,da church, the streets the First thing he Bought with him was the Word! N the beginning was the Word! Words R powerful, words Can bring a since of Hope to those that need it right Now!

I could not agree more with Wyclef.  Hope is a trait we all share despite our struggles and differences in life. This generous act by Wyclef and Western Union will impact the lives of many.
