What is most likely to strike you upon meeting JUSTICE League/Asylum recording artist Laws – other than the fact that he doesn’t look like the average rapper – is a clear confidence and sense of self. Those aren’t necessarily common qualities among his peers. Continue Reading

Tony Yayo Talks Rick Ross & B.I.G. Comparisons

Ever since Rick Ross announced Diddy would be his new manager, the Biggie comparisons have been inevitable. Regardless of how logical or asinine as it may sound, Ross has been enjoying a lot of success lately and even had Diddy refer to him as the “Biggie of the South.” High praise coming from a man who was instrumental in Biggie’s success during the short time he was around to make music.

That being said, not everyone is going to latch on to these comparisons. Comparing anyone to legends is a daunting task, but when asking the opinion of a man who once (and apparently still does) had a problem with Ross, reservation is one of the many emotions that are thrown out there. Doggie Diamonds of Forbez DVD recently caught up with Tony Yayo to discuss the topic. A G-Unit member speaking on Rick Ross? Not hard to guess how this ended up. Read rest of story…

Drake Talks Lil’ Kim

I just feel lil Kim is a G in the game, you’re part of era in the game..you know what I’m saying.. I just feel like your part of an era that’s classic, that we’ll never forget as young kids me and Nick..so you don’t have to do that, you don’t have to get on stage and announce your presence. or tell people to pay homage. That’s a given, I watched Nicki pay homage to her time and time again. I just didn’t respect it at all whoever else was on stage with her. Your just wearing your heart on your sleeve. - Drake

Chanel: “Turning Fantasy Into Reality”

Rob Dyrdek’s “Fantasy Factory” has proven to be a seamless transition from its highly popular predecessor, “Rob & Big.” Preparing for the premiere of its third season, one of the better aspects of the show has been its ability to help mold careers of Chris “Drama Beats” Pfaff and Chanel West Coast. After recently catching up with Chanel, the “rapping receptionist” spoke on her drive to become a respected MC in a genre and culture that may not be so accepting, how the murders of two close friends continue to inspire her to record music, a 20 minute freestyle with Travis Barker no one will ever see, her official mixtape and other things. Maurice Garland Interview With Yelawolf (parts 2-5)

In what is a continuation from earlier this week, Maurice Garland liberated the remaining parts with his in depth sit down with recent Interscope signee, Yelawolf. Honestly, if you’ve got some time to kill, this is more than worth the watch. This serves as a perfect icebreaker if you still happen to be unfamiliar with the Alabaman and the movement he has created for himself. The hip-hop world needs more interviews like this which tell the artist’s story. It’s more than music a lot of the time. The music is only part of the story. Some stuff can’t be put into lyrics, only into raw emotion.

Enough of my jawing, however, click play.  Disappointment shouldn’t be on your list of emotions after viewing these clips. Again, all the credit in the world goes out to Mo’ for making this happen. (Keep reading…)

Stat Quo: “The Long Road To Statlanta

Patience is a virtue. Time is of the essence.

Two completely different cliches, but two describing the progression of Stanley “Stat Quo” Benton. Since signing with Aftermath nearly a decade ago, Quo’s debut album, Statlanta, has been ready for liberation. However, due to the inner workings that are the politics of the industry, the album has yet to hit shelves. That’s not to say the ATLien hasn’t found success in his own right. In a recent interview with Stat, he candidly spoke about the album, SXSW, the possibility of seeing Detox before 2012, his new label situation with Sha Money XL, March Madness and even about new track he has which is slated to feature Lauryn Hill. Yes, that Lauryn Hill. (Keep reading…)

Diggy Simmons: Hip Hop’s Youngest Old Soul

Aside from the Jacksons, there aren’t many families in music who have had more of an impact on pop culture than the Simmons clan. Russell is one of the founders of Def Jam, a timeless and storied institution in music industry history. His brother, Joseph (known to the world as Rev. Run), is a member of iconic trio, Run DMC, and the inspiration behind the hit television show “Run’s House.” Seemingly next up to bat is Run’s son and Russell’s nephew, Diggy. Since releasing his debut mixtape, The First Flight, last November, the praises and accolades have been coming hand over fist.

We recently had the chance to chop it up with the MC/fashion-fiend where he spoke candidly on a handful of topics such: the show’s impact on his music career, the negative comments regarding his older brother JoJo, his feelings towards Lil Twist and Bow Wow, the stigma about “child rappers” and what he personally feels he needs to improve on.
