Last night, Fat Joe performed live at SOB’s for what was ostensibly a celebration of the release of his new album, The Darkside, Vol. 1. What really took place, however, was a tribute to a hip-hop veteran 18 years in the game and 10 albums deep.
When Don Cartagena first stepped on stage, wearing a simple black tee and matching fitted cap, it was a regal and powerful entrance, captivating the audience as “Heavenly Father,” his most recent collaboration with Lil Wayne, played over the speakers. But rather than launch right into material off The Darkside, Joe took us back to his Relativity days with undisputed classics like “Success” and “The Sh*t is Real Remix.” He then gave a humorous yet sincere shout out to Rob “Teef” Tewlow, declaring, “I love you, man. You made me rich.”
Joe then looked out into the crowd and asked, “Y’all want ‘Lean Back’?” Before the crowd could respond, he bellowed, “Then get the f*ck out!”

Last night, Foxy Brown performed live at the famous B.B. King’s Blues Club & Grill in New York City’s Times Square. Though the show comes on the heels of a recent arrest following an altercation with a neighbor, the Brooklyn MC was determined not to let any legal issues stand in the way of putting on a fun, energetic show.
A show which, of course, did not start on time, so DJ Obsession held the crowd down with a selection of classic hip-hop, R&B, and dancehall songs, whipping the crowd into a frenzy before the performances finally began.
Once Foxy bounced on stage, she ran through a litany of hits and fan favorites, including “Stylin’,” “Ain’t No,” and “No One Else.” Between songs, Fox Boogie took time out thank her fans, offer tenets of girl power, and rail against her detractors and enemies.

Nas and Damian are still hard at work promoting their Distant Relatives album. Last night, the two tore down the Hammersmith Apollo in what was described by one of HitHipHop.com’s represenatives as “one of the best shows” he has ever seen. Helping celebrate the occasion were Semtex, Jay Electronica and, of course, DJ Green Lantern who happens to be the tour’s official DJ. Even Amy Winehouse was in attendance. View the rest of the pics after the jump. (Keep reading…)

If you’re in the area tomorrow, be sure to check out Styles P at S.O.B.’s tomorrow night in celebration of his new book Invincible. I’ll give the utmost respect to P for doing something like this for a variety of reasons – the most important being the promotion of literacy in a genre where people think ignorance overshadows education. In some cases, it does, I guess.
Anyway, from recording with Biggie to dropping classic posse cuts to one hell of a debut album, P’s been around the block in Hip-Hop for well over a decade now. Show your support.
