Wyclef Jean Honored By Harvard Foundation

wyclef-kids

The allegations to Yele’s financial troubles? I always figured the full story was never told because, well, most of the times it isn’t. From a music perspective, I’ve always been a fan of ‘Clef. Everyone knows his story from the Fugees to creating his own mainstream (solo) respect. Hell, he even showed up on the Chappelle Show once. Classic episode, too. More importantly, I’ve always had respect for Wyclef because regardless of how big of a star he became, he always remembered where he came from. Haiti never seemed far from his mind, actions or words. And remember, he was doing this LONG before the earthquake which basically broke his country in half occurred.

That’s why I was pleased to find out he was being by the Harvard Foundation as “Artist of the Year” during their Cultural Awards ceremony on February 27. (Keep reading…)

Clipse x Travis Barker Studio Session

clipse

Turns out a recent performance wasn’t the only thing that had Pusha and Malice in La La Land.  The two were also in the studio with rocker extraordinaire, Travis Barker, working on his new album. I’m sure we’ll hear the results of this studio session in due time, but until then, this pictures will have to suffice.

A whole album from Travis Barker though? Consider that purchased.

Second Time's The Charm?

game-dr-dre

“Sittin’ here lookin’ at my platinum plaques/ Thinkin’ what the fuck am I without a Dr. Dre track?/ When Doc say ‘it’s a wrap’, it’s a wrap/ It’s still Aftermath and ain’t nothin’ after that…” – Game Doctor’s Advocate” from Doctor’s Advocate

For the most part, I’m a fan of Game. I’ve enjoyed all three albums and his most notorious trait, the name dropping, doesn’t irk me in comparison to others who listen to his music. He’s a talented guy, but with the talent comes its problems. He pops off a lot, and while it is entertaining occasionally, he has been known to apologize almost immediately. Blame it on the liquor and weed, I assume. Recently, he did make one great decision for his career, returning to Aftermath. (Keep reading…)

Lil Wayne Sentence Postponed Until March 2

The quickest way to complete something is to start it. For fans of Young Money front man, Lil Wayne, it is the day they and everyone associated with the Cash Money empire has been regretfully anticipating. After appearing in court for what was supposed to be the day he headed to prison, Wayne received an extension on his freedom until March 2. The reason being because of dental surgery he will have to heal from. As the poster boy of work ethic in rap, several unreleased and tracks featuring Wayne as well as videos are slated to appear at their usual rate.

While one year in prison is certainly more appealing than 15, the transition from G5’s to cell blocks will be a personal test. Prison life a routine. Mikey Fresh recently provided a brief synopsis of what Wayne’s days will consist including a 4 a.m. wake up call. Before heading off to Rikers, a New York court explained the provisions of this sentence.

There is a good chance, however, Weezy could see a 2010 release date. For good behavior, a return to the spotlight may emerge within 8-10 months. Business doesn’t stop behind bars though. The Drought Is Over 7, the first major Wayne release from the bing, is set to be released soon. Drake and Nicki Minaj will follow with their solo albums later this year.

Before driving into the night in his Bugatti, Wayne had these final words to say to his fans who flocked by the thousands to Lil Twist’s UStream page:

“To all my real fans, I really, really really really love you. I love you with all of me for real. I love you all so much, thank you from the bottom of my heart. And do not forget about me, because I will never forget about you. And i cannot wait for you to see me again. I’m out.
