“Inglewood always up to no good…”

I’ve never been there, so I can’t dispute that. What I can vouch for, however, is Shawn Chrystopher’s newest project, The Audition. I was actually giving this a spin as I was completing a paper for class tonight, and off first listen, I’m impressed. Before this I wasn’t too familiar with Shawn’s work, although he’s been on a handful of websites over the past few months. I’ll gladly hand in my late pass in return for being put on to good music. Now I have to figure out where to go from here as far as his catalog is concerned. Suggestions are welcome.

And another thing, for some reason, I think the cover is dope. Sometimes less truly is more. It’s simple and the only way you can find out what’s behind the door is is downloading and seeing for yourself. I advise you to do so. All the cool kids are doing it.

Chances are whenever I drop my debut mixtape, eastcoasttoyotacamrysunroofmuzik, and Eminem starts blowing up my phone for a guest feautre, I’m going to tell him no. I’ll never admit this to him, but I’d be scared as all hell to rap alongside this guy. For all the things people may say about him, one thing you can’t deny is that his flow is on some parallel universe, perfect stuff. It’s possible you may have heard a “wack” Eminem song once or twice in your day, but I can bet his flow was on point nonetheless.

That said, one of my favorite Eminem guest features was on the Busta Rhymes cut, “I’ll Hurt You (remix).” To Busta’s credit, he definitely held his own. But dude is legend, so I expected nothing less prior to listening. However, when it was time for Marshall to lyrically exercise, he more than lived up to the hype. His guest verse was so crazy that I couldn’t even type it correctly. I tried for about 15 minutes with no luck. My apologies.

He took Busta’s flow and flipped it better than he did. It’s like watching a basketball game where one player has a play which makes you shake your head in amazement. That was Busta. Then, out of nowhere, another superstar makes a play that leaves you speechless with a tear in your eye. And then after you realize what the hell just happened, you snap. That’s Em.

So on this latest installment of Catalog Catch Up, allow yourself to flashback to the glory days of Shady/Aftermath. Back when they were the most powerful force in Hip-Hop. It really doesn’t seem that long ago now that I think about it.

The weather is getting warmer, but the world is getting colder. At least in the world of Surf Club‘s Chili Chil. I’ve been waiting on this project since I first came to know these guys well over a year ago. Chase would always tell me “Chil got next, I promise” and it seems like now is the time. Chili Chil enlists one of the game’s premiere producers and all-around entertaining personality in Don Cannon to help usher in his new tape, Cold World. Speaking of which, here are three things you need to know about this song, “Ride The Bike,” and the project as a whole. Feel free to jot down some notes.

1. Chili Chil actually produced this himself. A jack of all trades I guess you could say.

2. The tape is pretty much going to be kept in house with Chil, Hit Boy, Chase N. Cashe and Rey Reel all assuming production credits. S.C.’s first lady, Stacy Barthe, will be featured on the tape as well.

3. Karla aka HustleGRL aka the hardest working 17 year old you will ever meet designed the cover. Then again, what cover doesn’t she design nowadays?

Hit the jump to see the covers (and tracklist) of the mixtape. And while you’re at it, check out their website too.

With his mixtape (The First Flight) and countless other singles/remixes (Star Is Born, Point to Prove, Set Me Free) being recognized by fans, yet overlooked by major media outlets, it took the release of his remix to Drake’s, “Over” (Just The Beginning), that eventually got Daniel “Diggy” Simmons love shown by said outlets for being “the first” to drop something over the newly then released track. Although people were receptive of his remake of the new single, Diggy still had more hearts and ears to capture and win over, with the goal of letting everyone know that him creating music was not a hobby but a passion and it was something he is great at.

Going back into the studio, the young fashion icon spit a crazy sixteen over Nas’ “Made You Look”, and unleashed “Flow Stoopid“. Linking up with PhilTheGod to create a visual along with the track, Flow Stoopid, was the hit that finally got Diggy more love then anticipated. With cosigns by Lupe Fiasco and Swizz Beatz via twitter and blog postings by Kanye West and Common, Diggy EARNED his buzz that has major companies, labels and the internet wanting to get familiar with him.

Last week the buzz generated rumors that Atlantic Records signed Diggy Simmons, a small statement of denial was released due to at that time it not being true but as of Monday, March 22, 2010, the day after Diggy’s 15th birthday, the deal has been sealed; Atlantic Records has signed Daniel “Diggy” Simmons!!

Aside from the Jacksons, there aren’t many families in music who have had more of an impact on pop culture than the Simmons clan. Russell is one of the founders of Def Jam, a timeless and storied institution in music industry history. His brother, Joseph (known to the world as Rev. Run), is a member of iconic trio, Run DMC, and the inspiration behind the hit television show “Run’s House.” Seemingly next up to bat is Run’s son and Russell’s nephew, Diggy. Since releasing his debut mixtape, The First Flight, last November, the praises and accolades have been coming hand over fist.

We recently had the chance to chop it up with the MC/fashion-fiend where he spoke candidly on a handful of topics such: the show’s impact on his music career, the negative comments regarding his older brother JoJo, his feelings towards Lil Twist and Bow Wow, the stigma about “child rappers” and what he personally feels he needs to improve on.

With the deal confirmed and the reunion with L.A. Reid set in stone, this means Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty will see the light of day. And we can all be thankful for that. Until then, this won’t stop Big Boi from releasing new music. This time around he jumps on the track which, in my eyes, is the perfect anthem heading into second and third quarters of 2K10.

With 4/20 officially one month away, we might as well start things off right. It’s been a minute since I posted Blake Kelly around here, but that’s not to mean he hasn’t been working on his next project. Campus Kingpen is set to drop sometime between now and May and from what I hear his project after that is already in motion. When I get the name of that, I’ll be sure to slide that your way. I was actually giving his debut Higher Education a run through not too long ago and was pleased at how well it sounded months later. So if you don’t have that, I advise you head over to his website and add that to your archives. Definitely a good tape to have now that the weather is taking a turn for the better.

“Jump Rope” is the latest visual from B-Kelz co-starring his leading lady, Mary Jane.
