Fefe Dobson released her new album Joy on November 30. Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with the Canadian songstress for the newest episode of “Civilized Talk.”

Dobson opened up in regards to a wide variety of topics including:

- Insight to the writing/recording process behind Joy

- How she knew it was time to release a new project after going four years since her last

- How she maintains her integrity as an artist and not confirms to trends

Kanye’s 5 Mics Album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

“Kanye put together a great album. It’s a really solid project. I think people had so much time to sit with the songs, that it threw them off a little bit when the album came out and so many of those songs were already on it. But at the same time, when you get that project and you can imagine getting all those songs on one day and we didn’t have to deal with the power of leaks and internet stuff. I definitely understand why people hold that album at such high regard. It’s a great project and it’s definitely given me something to strive for because perfect scores are hard to come by nowadays and I’ve seen a lot of them on that album. That definitely lets me know what I’m gunning for on this next project. ”

Gearing Up To Tour Europe With J. Cole

“Just being with Cole and going to Europe for the first time, I wanted to do something different set wise and setlist wise. I wanted to bring an adaptive show out there. Cole is in my city tonight, man we are just having fun. Just having fun being young and rapping and living and enjoying it. Being good, responsible people, I mean we meet on a whole bunch of levels. It’s great because before I got to talk to him I didn’t know where our relationship was heading. When I finally got to meet him I realized like ‘oh man, this guy is so easy to like.’ I know what people are trying to do between us, but I’m going to like this guy and we are going to be friends and make great music together, hopefully for years to come. Cole is one of those guys that I can coexist with even though we do two completely different things. I mean, the one area where we meet on is lyricism, but that should be the case with any rapper regardless of genre. I meet on lyricism with a lot of people. There are a lot of lyrical cats out there doing great shit. I mean, it’s really easy for me and Cole to get along, and getting along with someone like that usually leads to great music so being on tour that long and me having a new album on the way and him finishing his project, you never know. It’s something I want to do so I’m all in man, it’s whatever. ”

My Dream GRAMMY Performance

I would love to do a medley with me Wayne and Nicki. Only because having Wayne is so amazing, and the year Nicki has had is so great, and to share a stage with my family would be incredible man. That would be the craziest thing, or performing “What’s My Name,” with Rihanna would be crazy. I haven’t performed that yet.

Last week Maliah Michel (Drake’s “Your Love” video) and Amber Rose were spotted at a party down in Houston and decided to take a moment and pose for a picture.

Girls just want to have fun and last night Nicki and Katy did just that as they performed Cyndi Lauper’s classic tune during VH1 Divas: Salute The Troops.

In the December/January issue of The Source, Rozay took time to respond and clear the air on the Jeezy “BMF” beef.

Has the phone call between you and Young Jeezy take place yet?

Nah. That hasn’t happened. It’s nothing I’m looking forward to.

You guys have worked together before. It seemed the camaraderie between you two was genuine. The last summer he put out his own “B.M.F.” freestyle, but told me personally it wasn’t abbot you. Did you feel disrespected?

I’m not sure what was going on. [the freestyle] was most definitely [disrespectful], whatever it was. Then the explanations seemed sideways, less than G.

What’s more surprising; a diss records by somebody you were cool with or by somebody you don’t know?’

It’s most definitely when we always touching distance from each other. I’m right here. It’s not like I’m in Miami and you in New York. We see each other. That’s the only issue I had. It was sideways. So i made a record, “Summer’s Mine” just to [let him know], if we gonna play that sport, let’s put it on the table like men. If it was just a freestyle that the world took the wrong way, leave it alone. That’s how I took it.

An added twist is that you and Jeezy are both on Def Jam. Did you ever get a call from L.A Reid saying “Hey, let’s not let this get out of hand?”

Nah. I don’t accept those kinda calls. I think they know that would have been an exercise in futility. Whatever it’s gonna be, it’s gonna be. If we gonna get money, we gonna get money. If it’s pressure, just put it on the table. I feel no way. I had nothing but love for the homie, but if me getting money in the streets or making music offended you, I can’t help that.

New Source Issue Hits Stands December 14th.

J. Cole brings out Drake for his performing in New York City at Highline Ballroom. Looks like the two are starting to develop a public relationship. The two also performed in Toronto, Canada this past weekend. I mean the demand has been there for a minute, so it’s about time.
