With a huge midterm election just 6 days away…The Obama administration and the Democratic party are trying to recreate the energy that was so important in Election 2008…and we all know that star power can bring out the masses, especially the youth vote.

Last night, the Democratic party announced a weekend rally for Illinois candidates that would feature an appearance by President Obama and a performance by Chicago’s own Common. In 2008, Common was one of the many artists and celebrities who played their part and campaigned for the election of President Obama.

Drake speaks to MTV about his upcoming R&B mixtape “It’s Never Enough” and his choice to put it on hold.
“I been rapping a lot lately,” Drake told MTV News. “Me and 40 (Noah Shebib, his producer) have been doing some great rap music, so I sort of took a hiatus on the R&B for a second. It’s cool to do R&B, I love it, but it’s just hard for me to always commit to it. Because some nights, I get in there and 40′s beats, as melodic or R&B-driven as they may be, just have that right pocket that I just wanna spit.”
Jamie Foxx record featuring Drake took a leak yesterday titled “Fall For Your Type.”

The funny thing about lists is that no matter how much criteria is set or how much debate ensues, it will always be wrong at the end of the day. For the past few years, MTV’s Hottest MC’s list has ranked as the most controversial and talked about in the game. This year was no exception. Lloyd Banks supporters championed that he should have made the cut over Ludacris while many raised an eye at Jay-Z securing the number 2 spot.

Knowing all this, the station took to receiving outside opinions. The highly respected DJ Skee believed Wayne deserved a higher ranking based off the success he has achieved from a Rikers Island cell. Complex Surf Club producers Hit Boy & Chase N. Cashe decided to go the grassroots route by stating Wiz Khalifa deserved a spot on the list based merely off the buzz he has created around himself and his Taylor Gang brand.

“For him to do what he did [last year] without making a hit and still be more relevant than a lot of artists, more relevant than most of the game,” Chase. N. Chase told MTV News of Khalifa. “As far as him starting from the Internet, his own brand poppin’, starting on a major, flopping, and coming back independently on his own to get the Taylor Gang poppin’, and to team up with Curren$y and give him relevance. The Kush & Orange Juice mixtape blossoming and taking over Twitter.”

Our own Karen Civil even petitioned for Nicki Minaj to be higher than the #6 ranking she received given the year she’s had thus far with guest appearances and the anticipation for her own solo album.

In a nutshell, T.I.’s going back to jail for a crime that was dropped today.

T.I. and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were arrested Sept. 1 in L.A. after police said they smelled marijuana coming from their car during a traffic stop. According to papers filed today, the Los Angeles County District Attorney is no longer pursuing charges against T.I., specifically because an Atlanta judge has already ordered him back to prison. The District Attorney’s office declined to comment on reports suggesting that there may have been additional issues with the evidence against T.I.

In related T.I. news, check out his new track with Rocko.

Jay-Z and his business advisors strike again.

The brains behind President Obama‘s 2008 election campaign are already strategizing how to re-energize the youth and minority vote for 2012. Their answer: partner with Jay-Z. “I can’t believe you’ve finally heard the chatter about him replacing Larry Summers,” Deputy White House Press Secretary William Burton told us. “In all seriousness, keep in mind he was pretty active during the 2008 election, so I don’t think it’d surprise anyone that he would be involved again. But it’s a little premature.” An insider says strategists feel comfortable with Jay-Z because he’s a respectable celebrity who can reignite their message of hope. Jay-Z also seems to sing the same tune as Obama. Asked by Forbes what words will come to mind 50 years from now when people say Jay-Z, he rambled: “I hope to inspire . . . I guess Obama took this thing already, but just the hope of how far we can make it and the hope in knowing how far you can go from where you started if you really apply yourself and stay true to who you are.”

On the cover of Forbes, #2 on MTV’s list and now this. This obviously means he has material for his new album. Regardless how you feel about the guy though, you must respect his business acumen.
