It sure is good to have Kanye West back. Later today, we should all be hearing the remix to “Power” featuring big brother himself, Jay-Z. Meanwhile, last night, ‘Ye had a (not-so) secret show in NYC at The Box. The show was so secret and so official that it even had a dress code for admittance. Along with Mr. West, several friends joined him on stage (not on this clip though) including John Legend, Estelle and the newest member of G.O.O.D. Music (along with CyHi Da Prynce), Pusha T. Chicago’s own ran through a slew of hits that included “Selfish,” “Good Life,” “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and several others. For the record, Kanye’s catalog > damn near everyone else.

The highlight of the performance, however, was his incredibly personal “Mama’s Boyfriend.” I’m avoiding anymore footage of this song because the next time I hear it, I want it to be CDQ and on the actual CD. Any song about his mother is guaranteed to be a classic, especially the way he was talking about her on Angie the other day.

Respect to Nigel D. for the footage.

With the job market in the shape it’s in, dreams of a bright and successful future can sometimes get placed on the backburner for present-day solutions. Degrees don’t seem to hold the same value they used to and chasing dreams often seems like the most logical thing for a person to do at times. That’s what J. Cole is doing. That’s probably what he’s always going to do.

His debut album  is scheduled hit shelves late October and promises to be one entrenched in struggle, progress, dreams and reality. The track “Blow Up” features all that and one in which Cole reflects on his rise to his present day status and what the future holds for his career. It’s a must listen because of the content of the song. Plenty of people should find common ground to some of the lyrics especially if you’re working a job or in school with bigger dreams than the four walls you’re currently sitting in can confine.

Kanye West to Return to VMA Stage

With all the love being shown to his latest video “Power” plus the hype surrounding yesterday’s release of new track “See Me Now,” it seems the Kanye West comeback is definitely in full force. But what are the chances that Yeezy will be allowed to return to MTV’s VMA stage?

Pretty good, actually. USA Today reports that Mr. West will indeed be performing live during the awards show, which is being held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Regardless of what everyone else is talking about (including myself at times), I’m still a Jeezy fan. Do I agree with every move being made? No, but what does my opinion really matter at the end of the day? Jeezy’s moving forward and recently shot the video for his Lil’ Jon assisted “Jizzle.” I won’t compare it to “Who Dat.” I will say it is a totally different sounding song in the car, which is a good thing. Now whether it’s an appropriate single to create a strong anticipation for TM103, that remains to be seen.

Remember, Young’s new mixtape 1000 Grams drops tomorrow at 1:03 p.m.

Someone once said “controversy sells” and whoever that person was knew exactly what they were talking about. From the moment Jeezy let go of his outing over Rick Ross’ mega-hit “B.M.F.,” the talk everywhere focused on its intended target. Many believed it was at Ross himself especially with The Snowman spewing out the bars “How you Blowin’ Money Fast?/ You don’t know the crew/ Oh, you part of the fam?/ Sh–, I never knew.” The man behind the lyrics caught up with Shaheem Reid of MTV earlier today to dead those accusations.
