June 15th, 2009. A year ago today The Warm Up dropped. I’m taking this moment and appreciating all the love and support that I’ve received from yall. All that love ya’ll gave allowed me to hit the road and perform these songs for you before I even had a single out. It’s wild to me when I show up in places like Houston, Atlanta, Richmond, Ohio, University of Maryland, NYC, so many other cities and schools, and the whole crowd knows every word to every song. Seeing that it’s so early in my career, only 1 single out, that’s a blessing. Thank you.

A year later and people are still getting put on to The Warm Up every day. Slowly but surely ya’ll, just like it was supposed to. The album is coming, your patience is gonna pay off.

Thank you for real.

Ya’ll know I don’t like throwing out too much but fuck it, it’s a special day. A leaked freestyle never hurt nobody.

As promised, the official “Rikers remix” to Drake and Jay-Z’s “Light Up” was released. Albeit in the wee hours of the morning. For those who have been holding off on listening until now, it’s still the same verses from Drizzy and Hov, but the Weezy verse at the end is brand new. So brand new it had to be recorded over the phone.

Hard work does pay off in some cases. In the latest issue of The Source, several influential Hip-Hop journalists, bloggers and personalities were chosen for an in depth piece regarding their place in the game and the always entertaining “blogger beef.” All jokes aside, it is testament to how far and how much the online game has changed the scope of rap music.

It’s a serious subsidiary of the game and one that people are looking to more and more for “official” opinions on everything that happens in this crazy, mixed up, unpredictable (but yet predictable) genre we have all come to know and love at some point in our lives. Of course, Karen Civil was chosen was one of the personalities who is making serious strides. Clap for her.

Others who were included were:

“Our paths never crossed, and it’s weird,” Minaj told DJ Envy in a recent episode of MTV2′s “Sucker Free.” “I did meet [Lloyd] Banks, like, once or twice before.”

Even if Minaj is planning a major Queens anthem with 50 Cent, she’s keeping the details under wraps. “If there is a big surprise, I’m not gonna tell you, Envy,” Minaj teased. “I know everybody will know by the time I say it. You gonna tweet it and stuff. It’s gonna be on the radio. I mean, why would I tell you that?”

If a Minaj/50 collabo did go down, the rising star would have something else in common with fellow femcee Lil’ Kim, who has been taking shots at the Young Money diva. Kim and Fif worked together on the raunchy hit “Magic Stick” from Kim’s 2003 album, La Bella Mafia.

It would also be an interesting matchup since 50 has been going at Minaj collaborator and rumored manager Diddy in recent interviews, saying the Bad Boy mogul’s music “sucks right now.”
