It’s that time of the year again. Awards time. BET Awards to be completely clear. Yesterday, the network announced Queen Latifah was tapped to host the show’s tenth anniversary show on Sunday, June 27 at 8 p.m. While Diddy and his Dirty Money crew will take the stage and host the post-show. Who’s nominated? I’m glad you asked. Instead of going through the entire list of categories, below are a few of the evening’s bigger nominees. Jay-Z leads the way with five, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Trey Songz and Melanie Fiona with four and Young Money stars Drake and Nicki Minaj securing three and two respectively. Other marquee names include B.o.B., Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Fabolous.

Thank you to BET for Letting KarenCivil.com be apart of the BET Awards Voting Board.

With the way news has evolved into a 24/7 animal, it may seem as if the earthquake which rocked Haiti happened years ago. It was actually only five months. While many have moved on with their lives, Wyclef‘s life since the tragedy has been Haiti. The picture you see above is Clef proudly posing beside Chantal Mori (17), Margarette Pierre (12) and Sarah Maurice (8). Who are they? Amputee victims, but more importantly survivors.

The head of the embattled Yele foundation took each of the young women on a $3,000 Kmart shopping spree in New York earlier today (May 18).

At last check, Teflon Don is still slated to be released at the end of June. So this is about the right time for the video to be released.

Anytime F. Gary Gray decides to direct your video, you know you’re in for something special. Then having Stacey Dash as the leading lady, well, that only adds icing to the cake. Both of these were the case in Ricky’s newest visual, “Super High.” Again, Ross is making good music. This is a damn good tune leading into the summer and video that mimics the feel of the record.

Speaking of Ross, be on the lookout for his Albert Anastasia EP to drop Memorial Day Weekend.

For the most part, I’m a nice person. I’m also a person who likes a lot of artists, which can be a positive and negative thing at times. However, I’ve never been keen to Flo-Rida’s work. His early stuff before “Low” caught on was decent, but never anyone I’d break down a firewall to hear. Everything after that lost me, but apparently it has done wonder’s for the guy’s bank account and overall image. Cool. He has his own lane as an artist. I have my own as a consumer. We can agree to disagree.

I made mention to this back in early April. Diddy for the first time ever graces the Cover of XXL Magazine.

XXL Magazine:

Diddy stalled hopping on his Last Train to Paris to spend a little time with XXL. The hip-hop mogul appears in XXL magazine’s upcoming June issue and it’s his very first time being featured on the publications cover.

In the comprehensive interview written by Thomas Golianopoulos, Puff gives insight into his ubersuccessful business mind, his new album, Last Train to Paris and he reflects on his grind to the top to become hip-hop’s number one mogul.

He also looks back at his overall impact on the industry and culture. “I am the champion of hip-hop” Diddy says in the story. “Hands down, undisputed, I’m the undisputed heavyweight champion of hip-hop. We are going to have to deal with those facts. There is nobody that can fuck with me with what I do, which is getting busy. We are going across the board, as an entrepreneur, innovator, motivator. Who was there first? Who traveled to Europe first? The first. The first. The first. The first. I was the first.”

In addition to the P. Diddy story, the June issue features an in-depth reported piece on the untimely death of rap legend Guru of Gang Starr. Speaking with family members, friends, his former group mate DJ Premier and close friend/business partner Solar, XXL tries to make sense of the beloved lyricist’s final days, while also exploring the mystery behind his last days.

The magazine also pays homage to the 20th anniversary to the making of Ice Cube’s classic solo debut, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted and gives a detailed guide to hip-hop’s plethora of reality shows.

XXL’s June issue will be in stores nationwide on June 1, 2010.

After the Hot Boys fell apart and life took its course, I did my best to keep up with each individual member. Juvenile, who was my favorite at one point, never actually saw the same commercial success after leaving Cash Money. That and something crazy happened with his voice. Turk caught a case, went to prison and is still dealing with legal ramifications. We all know what happened with Wayne‘s career. But B.G. managed to always keep his head above water. At least on my radar, he did.

One thing about Gizzle is that his music has always be three things: raw, honest and vivid. On 2006′s The Heart of the Streetz Vol. 2: I Am What I Am, the Chopper City general exhibited all three of those characteristics on the song “I Ain’t Got Nothing.” Four years ago, the “stop snitching” movement was alive and well and B.G. did his part to promote it. See, other rappers at the time took and ran with the slogan, but not many were as believable as the former Hot Boy. I mean, there really isn’t anyone out there who can attempt to assassinate his character. If there is, they would have done so by now.
