Tag Archives: Adele

Those who have been keeping up with my “Billboard Breakdown” series the past few months or so know I’ve taken a special interest in Adele’s 21 album for two specific reasons. One, because she was literally selling 100,000+  a week long after the project hit shelves. And two, the LP would eventually reach a status very have achieved in America – the coveted “diamond.”

1. Rick Ross – God Forgives, I Dont – 218,492 - Barring some unforeseen events, this album probably doesn’t make it to platinum. That said, Ross can at least stake claim to having a #1 album. And even with Meek’s album on the horizon, I don’t see the promotional machine for this album dying anytime soon. You know, like with 3 Stacks allegedly directing the “Sixteen” video.

1. Usher – Looking 4 Myself – 128,099 - How crazy is this? Usher lands at #1 this week and Bieber lands at #1 next week. Racks on racks on racks. In regards to the album, I’ve heard mixed reviews. To me, it’s a cool album. Something for everybody on there. Of course this doesn’t spell “classic,” but yeah, something for everybody. And that record 40 did was nothing short of amazing.

3. Adele – 21 – 62,797 - Look, seriously, who is still buying this album? That’s not coming from a hateful place. It’s just un-f*ckin-believable people are still buying this record after damn near 10M albums sold and a small village worth of Grammys.

10. Waka Flocka – Triple F Life: Fans, Friends & Family – 33,179 - “Lurkin’” >>>>>>>

20. Kid Ink – Up & Away – 19,767 - My boy Justin has been singing this guy’s praises for like three years now. I should probably give him a call and see if he’s one of the 19,767 who bought the album.

31. Big K.R.I.T. – Live From The Underground – 12,101 - Straight up, I wouldn’t mind seeing a video for “If I Fall” with Melanie Fiona. A nice little summer track with a message.

54. Drake – Take Care – 8,931 - He’s had an interesting month, huh? I’m pretty sure he’s done promoting this album via the music video route, but one for “Underground Kingz” would be cool. That + some new music with the OVO Fest coming up? Not a bad promotion.

57.  Rihanna – Talk That Talk – 8,793 - This latest controversy (one in which she wasn’t even in the club) will probably push her to platinum. She’s only 80K away. Plus, I’m pretty sure she’s got one more single from this album.

96. Beastie Boys – Licensed To Ill – 5,395 - Look what I found in the middle of the Top 200. Five times platinum, plus.

112. Justin Timberlake – FutureSex/LoveSounds – 4,735 - Look, I’m on the Bieber bandwagon. But J.T. – from Justin to Justin – some new music would be MUCH appreciated homie. This album dominated Fall 2006 and Spring 2007, by the way,

121. Future – Pluto – 4,472 - C’mon man. “You Deserve It” or “Turn On The Lights” as the next single needs to happen.

1. Adele – 21 – 75,048 - 9.3M and climbing people. You really have to wonder who these 75,000 people that are still buying the album though. Don’t confuse that as “hate” either.

5. Big K.R.I.T. – Live From The Underground – 41,103 - There wasn’t the slightest bit of hesitation about whether I should purchase this or not. Support good music people, and I’m not referring to the label here. K.R.I.T. should have sold more than this, but you know how “fans” are. It’s still dope to see him sitting on the Top 10 of the Billboard charts, regardless.

8. Curren$y – Stoned Immaculate - 36,034 – As with Krizzle, I supported this buy purchasing the album. With as much free music as Spitta has given away over the past three years alone, yeah, this was well worth it.

23. Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – 13,463 - Not that it has anything to do with her album, but I’m pretty sure her collaboration with Justin Bieber will be a single soon enough. Speaking of Biebs, expect him to land at #1 next week.

32. Eric Benet – One – 10,742 - I didn’t even know Benet had a new album out, but I’m willing to guess he’s got at least three baby makers on there.

76. Travis Porter – From Day 1 – 5,496 - Big drop off for Travie, but it was expected. Check them out on the remix to Trouble’s underground banger, “U Don’t Deserve That.” They don’t disappoint.

118. Jay-Z and Kanye West – Watch The Throne – 4,213 - They got everything they could out of this album, promotion wise. I’m not mad at that. I’m also not mad at that photo Kanye tweeted either. Whether it was Kim or not.

161. Eminem – Recovery – 3,326 - Just in case you wanted to know how this album – which is 4x platinum – was doing.

1. John Mayer – Born And Raised – 65,432 - If I’m not mistaken, this is the second straight week at #1 for Mayer. Currently sitting around the 285K sold mark, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this glided to platinum by the end of the year. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to watch that skit he and Dave Chappelle had years back.

2. Adele – 21 – 57,840 - Diamond Watch: 9,264,442 and counting.

16. Travis Porter – From Day 1 – 14,268 - I’ve been riding with T.P. for a minute now so it’s good to see their names on the charts. They likely won’t be there for too long, but I give them all the credit in the world for creating a lane and staying true to it.

31. Rihanna – Talk That Talk – 10,427 - At 900K sold, remember when I said Rih-Rih would pace her way to platinum? It’s almost like she has a never ending supply of singles. Pun intended.

67. Tank – This Is How I Feel – 6,329 - Perfect for any of you newly married couples out there.

90. Tyga – Careless World – 5,073 - Just outside of 250K, I’ll say it again. Tyga just earned himself another album. Cue the Birdman hand rub now.

113. Young Jeezy – TM103 – 4,045 - Aight, Jeezy. We really need that official video for “Way Too Gone.”

124. Jay-Z & Kanye West – Watch The Throne – 3,770 - So you mean to tell me there’s an outside shot of us getting WTT2 and the G.O.O.D. album (Cruel Summer) within the next 12 months? Cool. I won’t get my hopes up, but cool.

2. Adele – 21 – 101,351 - In related news, the sky is blue, too.

9. Tank – This Is How I Feel – 33,031 - It’s summer time which means the always-fun summer fling. And here’s your theme music.

21. Nick Minaj – Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – 17,638 - Let it be known I’m none too pleased with Nicki getting up close and personal with Nas and Chris Brown in her new video. She is, however, almost gold.

32. Rihanna – Talk That Talk – 11,799 - She’s about 130K away from platinum. And she will get there. Slowly but surely, she’ll get there; especially when radio stations play “Cake” 100,000 times a day.

33. Whitney Houston – Greatest Hits – 11,006 - Regardless of what will be said about her over the years, fact still remains she had the greatest pure voice of all time. That and it feels like she’s been gone for a year now. Technology is something else.

59. Maroon 5 – Hands All Over – 7,675 - Have I told you “Moves Like Jagger” is still my sh*t? I haven’t? Well, “Moves Like Jagger” is still my sh*t.

85. Young Jeezy – TM103 – 5,644 - I’m still going to need an official video for “Way Too Gone,” Young.

128. Beyonce – 4 – 3,845 - Mama Knowles hasn’t been on the Billboard Breakdown in awhile, but she’s platinum and I’m pretty sure she’s busy with maternal duties and working on her next album to pay attention to where this is on the charts. Or not.
