3. Adele – 21 – 187,379 - You know what time it is. Nothing to see here other than the fact she officially surpassed the 5x platinum mark this week. And in roughly another five or six, she’ll be saying hello to 6x. Just in time for the Grammys.

4. Justin Bieber – Under The Mistletoe – 158,182 - The crazy thing is that this appears to be just a set up type album for his next studio project set to drop next year. And it’ll be platinum before the ball drops in NYC in about two and a half weeks.

5. Amy Winehouse – The Lioness: Hidden Treasures – 113,856 - That number isn’t anything to be ashamed about in the least bit, but I can’t help but shake the feeling it’d be higher.

7. Drake – Take Care – 73,154 - This’ll be platinum just in time for Christmas.

17. The Roots – Undun – 48,189 - To be quite honest, I don’t ever see a point, in the near future at least, that involves rap music without this iconic group. They’ve got their own following and pending this gets to 100K (which it will), that’s a win. Their one of those groups that don’t need to sell a crazy amount of records to remain relevant. At least that’s how I view their career from this armchair A&R’s eyes.

It’s still somewhat baffling to think Amy Winehouse was only 27 at the time of her death. Then again, it isn’t. Regardless, like so many other artists who passed away, the posthumous releases are well underway. Come December 5, Lioness: Hidden Treasures hits retailers nationwide. One of the tracks found on the project is her collaboration with Nas on the Salaam Remi produced “Like Smoke.”

A rather tame record initially and one that was recorded some three years ago, it takes new life once Nas jumps on the track acting as a wonderful contradiction to Winehouse’s vocals. Say what you will, Nasir has been on a tear for a good minute now. Here’s to hoping it continues.

1. Tony Bennett – Duets II – 179,317 - The man’s a living legend with this number one album added to a list of achievements already 100 miles long. Respect.

3. Adele – 21 – 116,859 - She’s going to be in the top five for foreseeable future. I can’t wait to see what her number do during the holiday season. She’ll probably release a new single around that time too. Just a hunch.

5. Lil Wayne – Tha Carter IV – 84,139 - Fresh off his birthday (29th, I believe), Weezy’s still nestled in the top five selling albums in the country with 1.5M in arms reach. Seriously, it’s crazy he’s not 30 yet. Feels like he’s been around forever.

A few days ago, the first cover of the August/September issue was revealed with Kelly Rowland covering the magazine, and now we get the second cover which will feature Amy Winehouse. Amy’s “Back To Black” album returns to the number one spot on iTunes and is number nine on the Billboard charts. In the excerpt below, you can read how producer Salaam Remi reacts to Amy’s passing.

I’m in London now. I’m out here because [Amy and I] were supposed to go to a wedding today. And before I could get to her yesterday she passed. We were going to the wedding of Nick Symansky, who is the person who really found her. He found her when he was a scout at 19. And he was the manager before they got the Universal deal.

They went ahead with the wedding. All I could do was sit there and imagine how many jokes she would have been cracking with me. We were in the middle of working on the album. She finished writing the record. We just hadn’t recorded.

For the last couple of weeks we were video chatting regularly. I was just talking to Nas. Both her and Nas were born on September 14, so we were going to Barbados with all of them for her birthday. She really doesn’t look forward to her birthday, you know what I’m saying?
