Big Sean Has Big Collaborations Lined Up

After hearing “Mercy,” we all remembered why we love G.O.O.D. Music so much. While  their unified album is on the way, Big Sean is keeping the momentum going as he recently revealed a number of big name collaborations he has planned for his follow up to “Finally Famous.” In an interview on Power 106 with the LA Leakers, he shared that he and Justin Bieber have already recorded a track together. Sean says, “You gon’ see it sooner or later—either my album, his album, we’ll see.” He also says there are things in the works between himself and his “Dance (A$$)” partner, Nicki Minaj. “She’s the homie though. Shout out to her, YMCMB. They show so much love.” Nicki isn’t the only member of the YMCMB clique that is showing love. Lil Wayne and Sean have worked on a track for Wayne and DJ Khaled’s upcoming albums.

Aside from his upcoming features, Big Sean has some amazing production on the table for his album. Kanye West, No I.D. and Salaam Remi will all be creating tracks for Sean on his second album. “Finally Famous” featured over 8 production credits from No I.D. including “My Last.” If you can’t wait for the actual album, Big Sean has promised the release of a mixtape prior to his sophomore album entitled F.F.O.E. (Finally Famous Over Everything).

“One time for all my niggas that dreamed it and real life’d it…”

With his success over the past year and change, for some, it may be hard to imagine when Big Sean wasn’t on the radio, magazine covers and countdowns. There was even a time I pondered if he’d ever graduate into anything past the mixtape scene mainly because it felt as if Kanye was so heavily invested into CuDi that nothing else mattered. Even Sean voiced these concerns if you go back and listen to his “Say You Will” Freestyle from 2009.

Anyway, and to make a longer post much, much shorter, Finally Famous 3 represented the turning point in Big Sean’s career. The well thought out, strategically ordered mixtape with Don Cannon laid out a host of bangers with features from everyone to Bun B to Tyga to Dom Kennedy. Now, it was seeming at least, everyone was accepting his bouncy and heavily mimicked flow (let him tell it); from there the sky opened up and he never looked back. For a tape that featured staples like “Crazy,” “What U Doing?,” “Love Song” and “My Closet,” arguably the record that has defined his career thus far was “Memories.”

The introspective, yet light number saw the Detroit native reflecting on his hustle as well as personal relationships gone sour (a friend addicted to pills who may or may not have ever truly recovered). There was no ill conceived effort to have the track permeate radio stations – although it would have provided a welcomed, honest change of pace – but rather it was a record Sean needed to do and needed to close the project out with. Being famous is great, and a goal pretty much everyone has dreamed of at least once in our respective lives. But never forgetting the struggles it took to get you there may be more important than anything because, at the end of the day, all we really have are memories.

While in Las Vegas for the third time this year already, Big Sean stops by to talk with Bootleg Kev and they had a lot to talk about. Big Sean discusses himself making the MTV Hottest MC’s list as well as his good friend J.Cole being snubbed from the list. He also discusses his upcoming album and talks about a few big records that he has on the album. No release date or anything revealed but it sounds like Big Sean has outdone himself from the first album. Also, he tells the world that he will be on Mike Posner‘s upcoming single coming soon.

And to think, I had totally forgotten all about this video. Wale finally unleashes his Big Sean-assisted visual for “Slight Work,” which happened to be co-directed by none other than Chris Brown. One time for Folarin releasing this as a single seeing as how it was easily one of the more standout records from his sophomore LP, Ambition.

I’ve heard this played in clubs the past few weeks and the reaction it garners is rather amazing, especially when Sean cuts in.
