Quiet as kept, Blake Kelly’s “Crash Landing” has been one of 2013′s better tracks. More mood music than anything else, Kel’s number ideally fits itself either smoking solo or during a cypher. The song is a relaxing listen when sober, so chances are it sounds amazing with Mary Jane and associated snacks and juices to help cure the munchies. I can’t do that because I’ve got a job that random drug tests. So  for those who live life not worrying about that, feel free to give it a test run.

Long, long ago, on an Internet far, far away, Blake Kelly made his first appearance around these parts. Since then, Kelz, much like any artist attempting to get their career off the ground, has encountered false starts, but none strong enough to deter the mission. Now, however, all the pieces appear to be in place as all systems are pushing forward for Blake in late 2012 leading into the new year.

With 4/20 officially one month away, we might as well start things off right. It’s been a minute since I posted Blake Kelly around here, but that’s not to mean he hasn’t been working on his next project. Campus Kingpen is set to drop sometime between now and May and from what I hear his project after that is already in motion. When I get the name of that, I’ll be sure to slide that your way. I was actually giving his debut Higher Education a run through not too long ago and was pleased at how well it sounded months later. So if you don’t have that, I advise you head over to his website and add that to your archives. Definitely a good tape to have now that the weather is taking a turn for the better.

“Jump Rope” is the latest visual from B-Kelz co-starring his leading lady, Mary Jane.

Don’t confuse me with an A&R or a real “industry head”, but if it’s one thing that is common with every artist who eventually becomes successful, you’re grind has to equal the product your present. Whether it’s live shows or dropping new music, for an artist to gain a buzz, simply put, he or she has to stay busy. With the internet as powerful and as quick as it is today, it’s easy to find yourself lost in the shuffle and before you know it, irrelevant.

Riding high from the success of his debut tape, “Higher Education“, Blake Kelly seems to be following my advice. Already at work on his next tape, B-Kelz just dropped a visual for a track using Kid Cudi’s “Dat New” as the stepping stone. Filled with blunt smoke and dreams of a fast paced life, the flow is there and the buzz is growing, one fan at a time.

College. For those who attended, there is a great possibility you can pinpoint at least five great memories you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life. The parties, the co-eds, the beer, the liquor, the friendships and, as the cover suggests, . Nevermind class, that’s what people talk about when they reflect back to their undergrad days. Well, Blake Kelly‘s done all that plus more during his time at the HBCU, Hampton Unviersity. A few months ago I introduced KC.com to Blake and vice versa, but now I return with tape as promised…just a few weeks later.

With the assistance of producers Ya Money and Mark Jackson, Blake takes you on a ride through his personal collegiate experience. Nearing 2,000 downloads in less than 24 hours, one thing is for certain. A buzz, albeit a grassroots one, is building. Without further adieu, the journey begins after the jump.

With 2009 already making household names of artists like J. Cole, Nipsey Hussle, Drake and Asher Roth to name a few, the second half of the year could potentially see the rise of a new name, Blake Kelly. While this isn’t a full fledged article detailing the emergence of the artist from the DMV, with roots in Oklahoma, consider this an introductory post. Similar to the path of Cole and Roth before him, college (Hampton University) has played a vital role in his maturation and the location where he decided to take rhyming seriously.

His debut tape, “Higher Education”, is set to drop at the end of August, but until then use these tracks as precursors.
