Safe to say that the biggest news of today was that one of the biggest shows in music and pop culture leaving Tinseltown to head back East to the newest landmark of New York City. MTV announced early this afternoon that the 30th Annual MTV Video Music Awards scheduled for Sunday, August 25th, 2013 will be held at Brookyln’s own Barclays Center. For more info, hit the jump. A number of people had different roles in the transformation of the Brooklyn Nets new look from Brooklyn’s own Jay-Z, the owners of the franchise, to designers and fans. As we’ve already seen, the logo itself has taken on a personality of its own in the city, but some are kind of indifferent on the design. The transition from the New Jersey Nets to the Brooklyn Nets is an on-going one. However, a large piece of the evolving franchise has been revealed. The red, white, and blue colors from Jersey have been shed and black and white was picked up on the way to Brooklyn. The new color scheme “pays homage to the old New York subway signage system.” (ESPN.com)
The team’s new home is a $1 billion arena that will open its doors at the beginning of the 2012-2013 season. The team’s part owner Jay-Z apparently had a lot to do with the selection of the new design. “The Brooklyn Nets logos are another step we’ve made to usher the organization into a new era,” he said. This is the first sports team that has found its home in Brooklyn since the departure of the Dodgers in 1957.
