Ladies, click with caution. The ‘Blue-Eyed Soul Movement’ is looking to make a comeback! As we all are fully aware, there aren’t too many that can sing D’Angelo’sUntitled [How Does It Feel?]“ quite like the man himself. But this new up and comer by the name of Travis Garland did a rather impressive rendition of the timeless classic and KILLED it. We may be a little late to the party, but either way we can look to expect some real sultry and soulful work from TG in the near future. Check out the quick snippet from his performance at the BET Music Matters Showcase at SOBs in NYC above.

Many of us have seen the growth in The Roots drummer, Questlove over the years. From the beginning of the Philly-born clan, to on stage with the likes of Jay-Z, Jill Scott, and others, to now being the resident musical director on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”, its a wonder how he has had such a valuable impact on Hip-Hop and music. Well now we will get a taste of his journey from his perspective, as Quest is preparing to release a memoir of his experiences and a different view on the study of pop culture called Mo’ Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove. It was only right that Jay-Z would bring out a surprise guest during his set at the first annual Made In America festival in Philadelphia last night. As curator of the two-day event, Jigga selected a fantastic first day of shows, with performances by an eclectic group of artists including Maybach Music Group (Rick Ross, Wale, Meek Mill, and Rockie Fresh), as well as Calvin Harris, Passion Pit, D’Angelo, Janelle Monae, Jay Electronica, and Skrillex. However, there was no doubt as to who put on the best show. By the end of the night, Hova had virtually the whole G.O.O.D. Music crew onstage with him to perform some of their own hits, with the crowd going wild. Kanye West, Big Sean, Common, Pusha T, and 2 Chainz all came out to show Jay some love, while wifey, Beyonce showed her support from the sidelines. For some footage of the G.O.O.D. Music set and the other performances, courtesy of Yardie, hit the jump! Stay tuned for a re-cap of today’s Made In America events.

D’Angelo Set To Perform At The BET Awards July 1st, First Televised Performance In Twelve Years

D’Angelo has been having a stellar comeback season over the last few months and this just may be his summer to take over. Just ahead of his set at this year’s Essence Music Festival, the R&B singer will hit the stage at this year’s BET Awards – he joins previously announced performers G.O.O.D. Music, Chris Brown, 2 Chainz, and many more.

He’s about to ask us how it feels a second time around – should feel pretty great to see him perform live just like the old days. We’re crossing our fingers that The Roots will join him as well.

D’Angelo Performs Live in the US; First Time In 12 Years

It was the year 2000, the last time we saw D’Angelo set foot on a stage in the United States. The fans at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee were blessed with a performance from D’Angelo that included songs like Jimi Hendrix’s “Have You Ever Been to Electric Ladyland,” Parliament Funkadelic’s “Funky Dollar Bill,” Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should Never Be,” and The Beatles’ “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.” His set was 90 minutes and he was introduced by his good friend Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson from the Roots. ?uestlove had great things to say about D’Angelo including how excited he was for him to touch the stage again and how the love he received should push him to make a new album.

“I wanted him to see that. That’s a green light. Me doing it wasn’t, like, running out of jam partners. Me doing it was basically showing him, ‘Look, you are so missed you don’t even realize how much you are missed,’ hoping that this will be the adrenaline boost that will finally get him to turn his record into the label. It’s done, it’s brilliant. I played on it. I know it’s brilliant. Now it’s just time to let his kids go and show it to the world. That’s what I’m here for.”

If you weren’t in Tennessee this weekend, all hope is not lost, D’Angelo will be performing at this years’ Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on July 6th.

[Video] HBO’s “The Wire” Is Back! Sort Of…

HBO‘s critically acclaimed series “The Wire” is a drama that everyone’s been missing since its departure in 2008.  With a 6-year run and 5 seasons of Baltimore-influenced plots, the cast is back for a warm-welcoming stint on Broadway… on the nearest computer screen near you.  Gearing up with the hilarious producers Will Ferrel and Adam McKay of Funny or Die, Michael Kenneth Williams (Omar Little), Sonja Sohn (Det. Kima Greggs), Larry Gillard Jr. (D’Angelo Barksdale), Andre Royo (Bubbles) & Felicia “Snoop” Pearson from The Wire join together for The Wire: The Musical.  Here they “allow you to experience America’s failing drug war through the magic of song!” Isn’t that special! (It’s pretty damn good too!) Enjoy!
