Not only does David Banner have a new free album “Sex Drugs & Video Games“ out today, but it’s accompanied with a motive and goal.  In what he calls his 2M1 Movement, created to combat music conglomerations (as cleverly detailed here), he states in the video above his exact intentions. If you don’t have time for the video, there’s also his his public release statement on the movement below. After listening to his statement and downloading the album, will you spare a dollar or two?

What’s up everyone,

The goal of Sex, Drugs & Video Games is to show the world urban music is still valuable. And how am I going to do that? Well, I’m glad you asked. I need 2 million of you to download this free independent album on May 22nd, then I need the same 2 million of you to donate at least $1 to the movement, but feel free to donate more! There is no maximum donation, and you can even donate now.

And what’s the “movement” you may ask? THE 2M1 MOVEMENT IS TO START CONTROLLING OUR OWN MUSIC, MOVIES, AND CONTENT… PERIOD! WE ARE NOT SIMPLY CHARACTERS IN A VIDEO GAME being controlled by the invisible hand. Once the goal is met, I’m going to shoot a movie that will drop May 22, 2013, and a portion will go to charity. Big shout out to Louie C.K. for the motivation!

Download this free independent on May 22nd, and make sure to support the 2M1 Movement. Hell, even if you don’t like me, at least support the movement, because that’s what this is all really about. (But, this joint is jamming!) I spent a great deal of my own money on this project, so I know you can spend at least $1. Chris Brown and Lil Wayne ain’t cheap. LOL

Sincerely,
David Banner

There’s power in numbers and that’s something David Banner is going to be relying on from those wanting change in our present-day culture. No more taking advantage of artists as the veteran MC is tired of people in the industry being played as “characters in a video game” and not having full control of their work. That’s why on May 22, the Mississippi native –who says this is the best year in his whole entire life– is going to release a free independent album entitled Sex, Drugs, & Video Games featuring some of the biggest names in music such as Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, Snoop Dogg, Game, Big K.R.I.T and more. It’s a free download, but there’s also a tiny catch. Banner started this 2M1 movement with the confidence that two million people will download the album and the same two million will donate at least $1 to strengthen the movement of finally being in full control of your own work. The success of this project in what Banner calls, “Life and death” is something the industry and business leaders will keep an eye out for as this could bring on a new change in the way people handle their business strategies. Confident that the goal will be met, Banner’s going to shoot a movie that will drop on May 22, 2013 with a portion going to charity. Hearing Banner speak is somewhat motivational speaker-esque as he’s knowledgeable about the issues we face in our culture and is passionately working for change. He’s about to embark on a make-or-break project with all eyes on him and KarenCivil.com recently got the chance to catch up with Banner and talk about hip-hop’s landscape and its future.

After releasing the original track with 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne, David Banner enlists Chris Brown and A$AP Rocky for the second remix to his “Yao Ming” single. David Banner says he is releasing this in honor of Superbowl 46 this weekend and I’m not mad that he did this at all. I could make the case that this is better than the remix. Am I alone? Also be on the lookout for his upcoming The Make Believe Album project which is coming soon.

1. Taylor Swift – Speak Now – 276,000 - The holidays were kind to young Taylor as she moved over a quarter million units for an album that was released on October 25. I’m not sure of her total numbers are, but if there was any album capable of hitting diamond status, it’d be this one.

5. Michael Jackson – Michael – 150,000 – Mike should be gold in a few weeks. Somewhere, tears of joy stream down Joe Jackson’s face.

6. Jamie Foxx – Best Night Of My Life – 144,000 – This was actually Jamie’s highest debut ever and I’m actually surprised he sold this much. Still, I’ll give respect to him for it. He should have left the song “15 Minutes” to Mario though.

7. Eminem – Recovery – 137,000 - He. Just. Keeps. Selling. He’s now well over 3.3 million copies sold.

8. Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday – 133,000 - Guess who’s creeping up on platinum? Birdman and Slim win again.

9.  Keyshia Cole – Calling All Hearts – 128,000 - Like Foxx, I’m surprised she moved this much. Especially after the lack of support she received after going with Nicki on the first single. (Keep reading…)
