Earl Sweatshirt Ft. Mac Miller- “Guild”

With all thanks to Earl, the tuned down beat propeller drops “Guild” featuring friend Mac Miller. “Guild” makes for a trippy, slowed-up and chopped listen, much  like a lot of Earl’s previous releases. OF’s Earl Sweatshirt Talks School In Samoa, Revitalizing Friendships, New Management, Solo Deal, Andre 3000 & More

Damon Winter/The New York Times

Last week, Earl Sweatshirt of Odd Future had his first one-on-one with the New York Times since his re-emergence.  Speaking on the hardships of having separate management, his friendship with Tyler the Creator, the drama between OF and his mother, his change in sentiment over lyrics,  meeting Andre 3000 and more.  Check out our favorite quotes below and pop the link for the full interview:

To explain her son’s absence, she added, “I would’ve had to have talked about his personal life in a way that I think would’ve been really unfair.”

By the time he began working at the center, “I had already come to the conclusion that I was done talking about” that sort of subject matter, he said, but coming face to face with young people who had suffered in that way was overwhelming.

“He’s matured,” said Syd. “It’s weird to say that because in my circle a friend’s maturity isn’t necessarily looked up at. But he hasn’t changed.”

In the car on the way to the office he took a call from Ms. Steinberg. “I’m too high for this,” he said, equal parts miffed and mischievous. “I’m about to get sad. And then you know what’s going to happen, I’m not going to be glad. I’m going to be mad. Bad.” He’d learned that Ms. Harris was going to pick him up afterward to take him to meet André 3000 (with whom he shares a legal team), and he was frustrated.

He wants to work on three projects: his solo major-label debut, a collaboration with the producer Matt Martians and EarlWolf, a long-planned collaboration with Tyler. Of “Earl,” the song that made him a star, he said, “There’s not a time I want to listen to that,” describing it as sounding “like you skinned your knee.”

“If I don’t do this right now, if I don’t take this risk, I’ll never get this day back again.”
