Miguel Covers FADER Magazine: The ‘Second Wind’ Story

It’s safe to say that Miguel could be crowned the King of R&B this year. From his Art Dealer Chic mixtapes to his sophomore album, Kaleidoscope Dream, he has put in an amazing amount of effort and work. News comes in that he will be covering FADER magazine’s issue for next month. In a write-up titled “Second Wind”, the magazine looks at his journey starting from the point of his childhood, and ending to what we may expect next. Check out the cover below with a link to the official write-up.

The original Coke Boy took it back to his roots to shoot the cover of FADER‘s annual photo issue in Morocco. The special edition hits shelves on October 9th but the kind people at the magazine have provided readers (or, lookers you might say) with the opportunity to digitally sneak a peek HERE. With Ross Mantle behind the lense, FADER spent nearly a week kicking it with Wiz Khalifa (and probably catching a contact high in the process). Here’s what they had to say:

Relatively new FADER photographer Ross Mantle shot Wiz in the center of a music video shoot and documented some of the first days of his relationship with Amber Rose. Mantle said, “He’s pretty down to earth. I don’t know if he’s going to get a head about him later on, but he has a bit of a young ego. I think to be in the position he’s in you have to have something like that to begin with.”

2010 has been good to Catfish Billy. On the first day of the year, he dropped Trunk Muzik along with DJ Burn One. And as we prepare to head into the tenth month of the year, it is still one of the better projects (album or mixtape) to drop this year. Touring alongside part-time renaissance man/full-time weed smoker Wiz Khalifa has exposed the guy to an entire new legion of fans.

The flow is one of a kind and from meeting the guy once, he’s one of the most humble people in the game. With all those compliments, it’s great to see Yela land on the cover of FADER alongside East London group Trash Talk for the 70th issue.

To both of these artists, place has been an important theme in their careers, Alabama especially figuring into the career of catfish rapper Yelawolf, an undeniable force whose quick diction and mudflap haircut are going to worm their way into the hearts of many, many different types of people. As you may know, rap is the new pop (by new, we mean the last 20 years minimum), and that’s basically the time folks like Yelawolf have grown up, this self-proclaimed redneck running through his tracks with a predilection for gross glamor, Chevys and Xanax. We didn’t fish him up from the bottom of the swamp, he came up for air himself, but he knows where he’s from. That’s why we went there.

The concept behind Luda’s newest venture, Battle Of The Sexes, has literally been through more changes than a LeBron/New York Knicks rumor. As the release date approaches, more decisions are being set in stone and one of them happens to be his newest visual with one of the game’s most in-demand names at the moment, Nicki Minaj.

Truthfully, this track might actually turn out as a succcessful follow up single to Luda’s club anthem, “How Low.” It’s catchy and has two popular rappers as its spokespeople. That doesn’t necessarily guarantee success, but it definitely is a great starting point. And from what people have told me, it may, in fact, be the best track on the album. Take that however you’d please.

After the jump, take a glimpse of Nicki’s newest journalistic accomplishment.
