How ill is this?  Alicia Keys stopped in Los Angeles Tuesday night as part of her “Set the World on Fire” Tour with  Miguel. As A.Keys kicked a small melody of Janet Jackson’s “Anytime, Anyplace” for the grand set-up, west coast’s frontrunner Kendrick Lamar came out to finish the track with his new single “Poetic Justice.” He gave the audience another quick surprise by performing his chart-topping hit “Swimming Pools (Drank)” before leaving the stage. It has finally arrived. The visuals to compliment the track that we all have been bumping since the release of “good kid, m.A.A.d city.” Kendrick Lamar and Drake team up for a video that is a true narrative of a modern-day love story. We are taken back to the streets of Compton the “Poetic Justice” video. While Kendrick requested that Janet Jackson appear in the video due to the sampling of her ’90s smash “Anytime Anyplace” , I’d like to think it turned out just fine without her. The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor

In an adaptation and reinvention of Janet Jackson’s “Pleasure Principle,” Teyana Taylor drops “D.U.I.” Featuring hip hop’s heavyweights Fabolous and JadaKiss.  It’s the perfect slow blend to entice fans for her March 12th EP “The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor”.  Interesting title when you take into account Lauryn Hill‘s “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”.  Will it be a tribute or the main sense of inspiration?  Only time will tell.  Listen below and let us know if you’re feeling the Janet-influenced track.

Janet Jackson stopped by “American Idol” for their season finale to show the rookies how veterans command an audience. Running through her new hit, “Nothing,” she also ended the performance with dazzling performance of his timeless classic, “Nasty.”

It’s good to see Janet still remaining relevant in an industry that seems to kick artists to the curve after a certain amount of time. I just hope people truly appreciate what she’s meant for music, better yet pop culture as a whole. Multi-platinum albums, successful movies and she’s managed to do it all while maintaining a positive image (that whole Superbowl thing not pending).
