2012 was a good year for Rick Ross, well other than being shot at and being called out by the GD’s. Music wise, Ross had a great year with his “God Forgives, I Don’t” album going gold and being apart of numerous hits. Although it was at the very beginning of 2012, Ross released one of the top three mixtapes of the year with “Rich Forever” as well as a few other projects like “Self Made Vol. 2” and “Black Bar Mitzvah“. I would have put him at number 2 behind Kendrick Lamar but being number three isn’t so bad.
Coming in at number four on the very controversial Hottest Mc’s list is Nas. No one can deny that Nas had an incredible year with his “Life Is Good” album and just that body of work alone is enough to land him in the top four on MTV’s Hottest MC’s List.
While in L.A., MTV’s number 8 hottest MC A$AP Rocky sat down with the L.A. Leakers to discuss his position on the list. Obviously A$AP feels he should be higher than number 8; in fact, he believes he deserves to be number 1 and gives several reasons to support why he feels this way. Personally, I believe Rocky had a solid year but no way do I think he should be number 1 on that list.
Until last month, Drake was pretty much absent when it came to solo tracks but he did make a huge impact when it came to guest features including “Stay Scheming”, “Fuckin Problem”, “Poetic Justice”, “No Lie” and a few others. I still expected Drake to be a little higher than 5 but I guess his lack of solo tracks prevented him from doing so.
If this was the list for rants then Kanye West would no doubt be coming in at the number one slot but instead we’re talking about music. Over the past year, we’ve not heard much from Ye’ other than that not so good “Cruel Summer” album. Well the MTV panel breaks down Ye’s year and lands him at the number 7 spot.
At the number 6 spot lands another G.O.O.D Music artist who goes by the name of Big Sean, and he had a solid year with the release of his “Detroit” mixtape which had a few gems on it such as “Guap” and “Mula“. He was also apart of the “Cruel Summer” album and had pretty solid verses on several songs. I would say number 6 is deserving of Big Sean.
