Hyperbole is something I need to work on in my writing. However, let’s use some hyperbole right here. I don’t care. I don’t care. I don’t care. Bun B’s “Get Throwed” is one of the best songs since the turn of the century. In fact, and not that this means a damn, “get throwed” was the first “turn up.”

3. Adele – 21 – 76, 717 - She’s eating right now and one of the more respected names in music. If she can keep sales somewhere at this pace, she’ll be three times platinum by the fall. Her previous album, 19, is also #32 on the charts. That’s platinum too, by the way.

5. Beyonce – 4 – 72,283 - Damn, I was wrong. She’s two thousand copies away from 500K, but that early leak killed her sales. She’ll still eventually get to platinum, but  not the way she probably envisioned.

18. Big Sean – Finally Famous: The Album - 17,692 – Yep, time to focus on that project with Spitta and Wiz.

38. Wiz Khalifa – Rolling Papers – 10,273 - Speaking of Mr. Rose, he’s officially gold now. And still no signs of a video for “The Race.”

It seems like forever ago that unique collaboration “C.O.L.O.U.R.S.” with Lil Wayne and Pimp C was released. And even then I thought it was odd. Fonzworth was always known as that guy with Diddy and immortalized in the Dave Chappelle skit. During my daily stop by Dirty Glove Bastard, the good people over there uploaded a video of Bentley speaking about the song and the story behind its creation.

The dopest aspect about the record, you ask? Not Wayne’s verse or Pimp C’s spirit. Nope. Fonzworth is donating the publishing to Chad’s kids.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these. Hopefully, I can keep this going on a more consistent basis, but enough of the sob story. Let’s get right down to it.

3. Bruno Mars – Doo-Wops & Hooligan - 54,800 (54,846) – It’s great that he debuts at #3, but depressing that dude had the #1 song in the country and can’t push 100K. In the words of my homie Hit Boy, “we’re all doomed.” The good thing about the album is that it’s packed with singles. My personal favorite? “The Lazy Song.”

4. Eminem – Recovery - 52,464 (2,768,107) – Not really much to say about this album which hasn’t already been said. The year’s highest selling album and the only one who really has a chance to top him is Kanye. Credit to whomever made the decision to wait until Wayne was just about through with his sentence to drop the video for “No Love.” It’ll pick up even more steam once he gets out.

Texas’s reign of dominance may be years removed, but that doesn’t mean the quality of music came and left as well. Long before the media became fixated on the country’s biggest state, legendary music had been resonating from the stomping grounds of George W. Bush. Scarface, UGK and later DJ Screw would go on to be the “faces” of “The Lone Star State,” but artists like Mike Jones, Slim Thug, Lil Flip, Chamillionaire, E.S.G., Lil’ Keke, Fat Pat, Hawk, Big Pokey, Paul Wall and Trae would etch their names in the state’s hip-hop fabric as well.

Trae’s “Swang (remix)” has always been a quality record. Keep in mind this was when Jim Jones was nearing his commercial peak and Houston was the go-to city in terms of hit records.

boosie-webbie

Had things panned out slightly different, Webbie and Boosie could have found themselves as one of the more popular and respected duos in Hip-Hop. They were young with distinctive voices and making a style of music which would have made even the O.G. veteran proud. This especially rang true with icons, UGK, specifically Pimp C. Under the tutelage of The Pimp, the two found success, both mainstream and underground. With the tragic passing of Sweet James, Webbie’s seemingly disappearance and Boosie prison stint, the potential was never truly met and questions of “what if?” run rampant.

Regardless, hearing new Trill Ent. is always appreciated. Over timeless Pimp C production,
