It’s that time of year again! VA Representer, Skillz has laced us with another year-end “Rap Up”. After listening to this, you almost forgot how much actually happens within a years’ time, especially in hip-hop. Glad there’s an MC to refresh our memory! Karencivil.com would like to wish you a safe rest of the holiday season, and best wishes for 2013!

We all know that it’s not 2012 until Skillz puts out his annual rap-up of how 2011 went down and how he feels about it. The song is already available on iTunes for purchase so make sure you go support Skillz and get that.

At some point we’re going to hear more songs from Will and Jada’s now superstar daughter, Willow Smith. A good portion of those songs are going to end up being constructed by Skillz and a familiar name to the Smith family in DJ Jazzy Jeff. The rapper – and famed ghostwriter – revealed in a BET interview that he and Jeff would both be working on her Roc Nation debut.

“Me and Jazzy Jeff are collaborating on an album this year. I’m still hosting parties, working on songs. We’re working on some stuff for Willow Smith’s album… I mean, you know, I worked with her dad [Will Smith] on a few projects before so you know I have a relationship with him. It was just a natural progression like they’re doing music so, you know, that door’s always open. I’d be crazy not to try to walk through it, so we’re working on some stuff. Her Roc Nation debut will be out probably next year.”

Look for Willow to possibly remake her father and Jeff’s 1988 classice “Parents Just Don’t Understand” to be released sometime this year.

It’s not the New Year until Skillz properly says goodbye to the previous one. This time he touches on everything from Waka Flocka getting shot to LeBron’s decision to Kat Stacks to the World Cup to everything in between.

A lot of cats fell to the game, and we all could’ve been like ‘Dark Skin Jermaine’…

It’s great that many know Skillz for his always anticipated year end lyrical synopsis. They’re dope. But, contrary to popular belief, he also has great songs that have nothing to do with the aformentioned concept. My fellow VA native has a project dropping next week entitled The World Needs More Skillz and “Celebrate Life” is the first look.

It’s a feel-good track equipped with a laid back instrumental and a well catered flow from Skillz. Pretty much, it is a song you would put your glass in the air, toast and simply celebrate life too. The subject matter isn’t too heavy, so it doesn’t come off as if he’s preaching. Yet, listen close enough and you’ll hear that he is dropping quality bars through out. The piano solo towards the end was a great touch, too.
