Nicki Minaj vs Funkmaster Flex Faceoff on Hot 97

Its getting hot in here…and by here I the studio where Nicki Minaj and Funkmaster Flex are currently going at it over the Summer Jam Fiasco that took place yesterday. Nicki feels oh so offended by being attacked over a decision that was made by someone else. She was only obeying the President of her label. However she does present a great point, no one attacked Lil Wayne. All shots were taken directly at Nicki. Flex says he’s not scared of Wayne. He did admit that he felt as if even though Wayne didn’t want her to perform, she could have done it for the fans who bought tickets. If you want to hear the entire interview, listen here.

What Happened With Nicki Minaj at Summer Jam; Lil Kim and Funkmaster Flex Respond

This was the plan. For history to be made during the Nicki Minaj performance at this year’s Summer Jam festival but by the time the time of her performance drew near, the whole performance was a wrap. Here’s what happened.

Well, it all started with Peter Rosenberg who made a comment on-air during the Summer Jam pre-show (Hot 97). He said, “Shout out to all my real hip-hop heads and none of these Starship artists.” The actual video of that comment can be seen above. Then, Mr. YMCMB, Lil Wayne tweeted

This left America wondering what exactly had taken place. Well, Wayne took offense from Rosenberg’s statement and pulled the plug on the remainder of the Young Money performances that evening; by this time, Tyga had already performed.

Well, Nicki fans then began to weigh in on her cancelled performance and she took to twitter to defend the decision and show that Young Money is most definitely loyal to one another.

Now, fans weren’t the only ones voicing their opinions on the cancelled appearance. Funkmaster Flex of Hot 97 weighed in too during his appearance on the turntables.

Now, while no names were dropped, Flex does refer to albums not selling and commercial rappers. Was he siding with Rosenberg on this one? But if Flex is Flex, you can guarantee that he will clear up all the confusion on his show tonight.
Lil Kim also decided to share her opinion on the performance as it was scheduled. Apparently, Nicki was slated to bring out Foxy Brown and Azealia Banks; which would explain the “History” that Nicki was speaking on making in her tweet earlier in the day. The irony is, all three of these female rappers have beef with the Queen Bee. Kim tweeted “Hot damn ho here we go again. Monkey see monkey do. I heard the haters are joining forces against the Queen. LMAO!” She then told Nicki break a leg but followed up with this.

“My love for the female hip hop movement has always been genuine. All the females I’ve been bringing out recently I have love for. If u see anybody else doing it. Its not genuine. Know it’s only to copy and compete with me. For those of u who have been brainwashed by the fraud. Let’s open our eyes now people. The clone is not bringing ladies out for the luv.”

With all that being said, Nicki has been on twitter all day, clearing up the discrepancies from the entire issue. She is however being very classy about the entire situation and deciding to take the high road.

But, there is also the Summer Jam Festival Village Stage where new names in Hip-Hop get their chance to rock the mic. Last year, the Festival Stage was graced by the likes of Yelawolf, Big Sean, Big K.R.I.T., and Ace Hood. The Festival Village Stage performers for this year were announced and they are Schoolboy Q, Pusha T, Kendrick Lamar, and Big K.R.I.T will make his second appearance. Of course, there will be more names added to the line-up as Summer Jam approaches. The event will be held on June 3rd at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Same summer spectacle, entirely new venue. Summer Jam has long been one of Hip-Hop’s marquee moments. The live show coupled with the thought of the unexpected always leads to great hype and anticipation heading into the event. Held at the new Meadowlands Stadium, thousands of fans filed in to see their favorite artists hit the stage.

The crowd was still entertained early on by artists like Gucci Mane, Estelle and Talib Kweli. Gucci had the audience energized early on as he went through some of his biggest hits including “Freaky Girl” and the party classic “Wasted.” Ludacris later came out for a set that was briefly interrupted by an audio problem – he went nearly a minute with no sound. Thankfully the crowd didn’t lose much energy as they interacted with him during the mishap.

Maino, Juelz Santana and Fabolous would later grace the stage garnering satisfactory reactions from their hometown crowd. Some of the biggest performances of the night, however, came from Trey Songz, Drake, Nicki Minaj and DJ Khaled (and friends). Songz, who is a newcomer to the event, had ladies everywhere in a frenzy as his sexually charged set was aimed directly at every female in attendance. Regardless whether the guys liked it, their girlfriends adored his time on stage as he performed “Neighbors Know My Name” – the song many were claimed was the ‘wildest’ of the entire evening. He even brought one lucky fan on stage and after pouring water in her mouth, kissed her (with tougne) in front of the entire audience.

Drake’s second Summer Jam comes roughly nine days before his debut album Thank Me Later is to hit shelves and on the heels of his first visit with Lil Wayne behind bars. He paid homage to his incarcerated mentor throughout his set while managing to keep both his female and male fans happy as he went through a bevy of songs. For good measure, he brought out his Young Money counterpart Nicki Minaj which the crowd thoroughly enjoyed as well.

DJ Khaled played hypeman as he brought out a laundry list of friends including: Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Nicki Minaj (again), Vado, Cam’ron and Rick Ross. The changing of performers almost at will kept the crowd on their feet as Khaled’s unique voice was heard throughout the stadium. Usher was one of the last performers of the night and while he will always have a one of a kind catalog to perform, the crowd seemed less enthusiastic towards the R&B veteran as they were for Songz only minutes earlier.

In conclusion, Summer Jam 2K10 did not have the surprise Kanye performance many were hoping for or last minute showing by Jay-Z, but did its job by keeping those who attended entertained and with something to talk about the next day. Hit the jump for more photos.
