Robin Thicke – “Another Life” (Prod. By The Neptunes)

This is the jam right here, and a great way to start off your Tuesday morning. I’ve always liked Robin Thicke because he can blend his vocal talent so well with a musical style reminiscent of old school R&B/soul. Not sure where this track came from, but Robin Thicke x The Neptunes is a genius match up. I highly suggest you give “Another Life” a spin.

Pharrell Williams To Receive Golden Note Award At The 25th Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards

With an impressive resume that includes recent feats such as musical director duties at this year’s Academy Awards, composing the uber-hip soundtrack to 2010′s Despicable Me, and his collaborative upcoming works with such artists like Mac Miller and his i am OTHER artists (Leah LaBelle, Buddy, etc.), superproducer Pharrell Williams does it all creatively and makes it look extremely easy. ASCAP seems to share this sentiment as they selected the Virginia native and one-third of The Neptunes to receive the Golden Note Award at the organization’s 25th Annual Rhythm & Soul Awards on June 29 in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

In response to being picked to become among previous honorees such as Diddy, Stevie Wonder, and Quincy Jones (who is also being honored that night with the prestigious Founders Award), Pharrell says:

It is an honor to receive The Golden Note Award. ASCAP has celebrated some of the greatest musicians of our time with this distinction, and I am humbled to be in their ranks. The work ASCAP has done — and continues to do — to protect and serve music creators is truly remarkable and it is a thrill to be recognized by such a respected institution.

For your genre-crossing productions, innovative visual concepts and charitable contributions to the industry, Pharrell we salute you and wish you congratulations on receiving this great honor!

Some’ll say Fam-Lay is an artist who should be much bigger than what he is. Some’ll say he never took advantage of the opportunity in front of him. Personally, as a Virginia native, seeing Fam-Lay expand into a MC larger than the “he should’ve blow up” label so many of us in the state claim would have been ideal. That being said, however, it’s not to say buddy hasn’t had some truly dope records over the years.

One of them being “Skrung Out,” which you may  remember Tyler, The Creator borrowing the instrumental for the track “Splatter.” Who knows where this visual appeared from, but all credit goes to KarmaLoopTV and director Shomi Patwary for bringing it to life in rather dope fashion. If you’re from VA and/or follow Fam-Lay’s music, you know how dope of a drop this is.
