Honestly, Left Eye fans aren’t going to know quite what to think about the 20th anniversary re-recording of “Waterfalls” that was released this week. The new version is pretty standard up until about the 3:09 mark, when J-Pop superstar Namie Amuro lends her baby-soft voice to the late Lisa Lopes’ rap verse. It’s weird.

Amuro’s segment might have worked better were she not attempting to spit the exact same lines Lopes did two decades ago without any notable rap experience. But that hasn’t kept the song from rocketing up the charts in Japan, where T-Boz and Chilli are set to make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan next week. The group will be accepting the MTV Japan Legend Award — and we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a performance in the mix, too.

On the red carpet of the Vibe Impact Awards MC Lyte took the time to speak in support of New York rapper Lil Mama. While she did have hits within “Lip Gloss” and “Shawty Get Loose”, MC Lyte feels that Lil Mama wasn’t given a fair chance for her talent. After that statement, MC Lyte went on to state that Lil Mama would be paying Lisa “Lefteye” Lopes in an upcoming TLC movie! What do you think about the casting choice of Lil Mama for the movie? According to a press release from TLC Network, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins is in preparation to star in docu-series about her return to music. As T-Boz returns to Los Angeles with the goal of re-booting her music career, this time as a single mother, and after surviving years of recoveryfrom a life-threatening brain tumor, which forced her to relearn how to walk and talk. The network is planning an early 2013 premiere. Earlier this year, T-Boz and Chili also revealed that they were planning a TLC reunion show incorporating technology and projections of Left Eye.
