Call it a collaboration of epic southern proportions. Gucci Mane called on T.I. and Rocko to be featured on the remix to his track “Plain Jane” which is featured on “Trap Back” mixtape. In the song, T.I. makes reference to “poppin pills on Sunset” which is the exact place where he was arrested in 2010 for drug possession in his Maybach. While Gucci has released this for us to enjoy, he is already working on his next mixtape, “I’m Up.” Listen to the track below.
Quiet as kept, Gucci’s Trap Back mixtape is dope. Hearing him go back to the music that basically caused the uproar around him a few years back was encouraging and proof he’s actually listening to some of the critiques about his output as of late. My only concern is if Radric can stay out of trouble long enough to capitalize off the project. As it stands, however, one of the standout records was the Yo Gotti collaboration, “I’m In Love With A White Girl.” Let that title marinate for a moment. It’s no real set formula, rather you know quintessential Gucci Mane when you hear it. Working with Zaytoven is always a good thing as it relates to him mainly because of the catalog they’ve amassed over the past half decade and “Face Card” is a welcomed addition. The video is crisply shot, yet may not do much to add any added depth to the video. But it doesn’t matter because Gucci finally appears to be on the verge of releasing something I can actually anticipate. That’s all that matters.
Read MoreYou know I like numbering things. Here we go.
1. Gucci Mane has disappointed over the past two years, but I’d lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued by Trap Back which is set to drop February 5.
2. Seeing how 2 Chainz turns a positive 2011 into an even more lucrative 2012 is something I’ll be keeping my eye on all year.
3. This may be “ignorant,” but I have a soft spot in my heart for the music you play on Saturday night, pre gaming with friends. It will always have a place in Hip-Hop regardless of what anybody says.
